2019 till now

I was thinking the other day that Wayfarer has come a LONG way since it was first introduced as the successor to OPR.

Does anybody have a timeline for all of the updates? If not, can we crowdsource one?
What’s your favourite thing that’s been upgraded or added?

Mine is drafts. 100% drafts.

I want to say @ScrawnyMeowth1 had some good insights a bit back…

We went from 7 nominations every 14 days

To 14 nominations that renewed every 14 days

To 40 nominations that renewed 1 a day

To 320 nominations renewing 10 a day!

Crazy to think about how much has changed since 2019. Some of it feels like yesterday, and some of it feels like a completely different version of Wayfarer.

For me, being able to save drafts and finish nominations later has been one of the best quality-of-life improvements.

I think in 2019 we were still working on an updated version of the early ingress criteria. The heart of it stayed the same but the nit picking over the years got crazy.

Remember this is NOT CURRENT CRITERIA. Do not use this to vote. It is good history for understanding how we got here though and why there are so many water towers on the map! It doesn’t explain the persistent memorial benches though. :face_with_diagonal_mouth: https://web.archive.org/web/20190308131229/https://plus.google.com/+NIAOps/posts/Uw3rzL352Ut

I don’t remember when supporting photos became possible or descriptions became required but I think it was right about when pogo got access to wayfarer.

I think so, because I always had to do 2 photos and a description and I started when it became available in Go

FYI, this is on the forum too if people do wanna discuss it in a separate thread - OPR Candidate Action Guide - A Wayfarer History Lesson

I don’t really know where to add this as it was way before 2019, but this is the explanation for some questionable spots in my community. They also put the hashtag in the title and Wayfarer does not allow me to edit the spots to remove the hashtags that were never supposed to be there in the first place

From Ingress, Dec 9, 2014:

Create #MissionsForGood to support local charities, and together we can spread XM and goodwill, We’ve been inspired by Agents organizing Cross-Faction events to raise funds for local charitable organizations and coordinate food drives.

Verified Agents Level 8 and above: Create a mission using Portals at or nearby your local charities, like food banks and donation centers, and include the #MissionsForGood hashtag in your mission title.

While out hacking, we encourage you to donate cans of food or new and gently-used clothing. If there are no nearby Portals to use in your mission, submit a new Portal for your local charitable organization and include the #MissionsForGood hashtag in your Portal description. Happy hacking.

I only remember there being two photos required, and I can push the timeline back to about 2 months before PG got the subbing option (I powered through Ingress levels so I could sub, only for PG to get the option almost immediately afterwards  ).

Drafts are definitely my favorite change! It turned a complicated distance and time calculation down to just a 5 second pin drop. So much easier to do my planning from the comfort of my home instead of squinting at a sunny screen while my friends and family roll thier eyes and wait.

Drafts are fine, but if you live in a city then chances are that 90% of your subs are within 10km of home, so all it’s done is flipped the process – previously I would take the photos and then finish the sub at home that evening.

For the more spaced out parts of the world, it makes sense that they would be a game-changer.

I remember posting on the old forums as to whether those should be removed as they’re often things like generic charity shops that wouldn’t meet current criteria

There’s one I hate here that is a clothing bin
