Submitted and accepted. Was active for 2 weeks now gone.
Yea I think that’s an older sat photo because it’s a public place near a mil town and there’s memorials everywhere.
I was just passing by on my way to a friends house. The city purchased some small patches around like this and put up memorials and art that raised money for veterans. It was right across the street from that pedestrian crosswalk. So if it’s off it’s only off by a few feet. Not too huge of a deal for me just was wondering what happened
I keep getting more confused. There is no pedestrian crosswalk that I can see. Are you talking about that drainage ditch?
Yea fam sorry I was referring to that crosswalk sign. It’s an actual crosswalk now though. It’s painted in the road and such.
I’m getting confused as well. Whilst the street view directly at this location is from 2019, there is street view from 2026 just slightly up the road, and not only can I not see the sculpture on that, but I can’t find anywhere that matches the background features on this street.
The background of the image features what seems to be a sidewalk, which there isn’t one on street view from earlier this year, and I can’t see any buildings where the bottom of the wall is bricks, but the parts between the windows are tiles.
I don’t go over that side of town much anymore so perhaps I can double check the location. His neighborhood is pretty small so it can’t be too off.
When you make an appeal, it cannot harm to give some additional environmental photo’s where the object is visible as well, so it can be pinpointed. For instance, the supporting photo shows a background with brick and some specific stones next to the windows, but I cannot find those on google maps. Although the maps are a bit olders, it’s quite uncommon to destroy a house, and redo part of the bricks.
As it looks, as a reviewer, I would rate it as:
object is not at the location (there is no evidence within the photo, or google maps, that the object exists at this location)
object is at SFPRP (all the houses have gardens, so it’s easy to assume its in a garden)
I’m surprised this nomination was accepted. I see so many red flags, I would probably have considered it a fake wayspot:
Assuming the nomination was not fake, you may want to get additional pictures showing the real location, as I wouldn’t be surprised if this removal also triggered an investigation for abuse.
This actually sounds like it should be pretty easy to verify. If the city purchased parcels in a residential neighborhood specifically to install public art or veterans memorials, I’d imagine there was some sort of announcement, council record, news coverage, or other positive publicity surrounding the project. And since you seem to know the background of how these installations came to be, perhaps you remember where you originally read about it.
If you can post a link to the city announcement, veterans project, news article, or anything else documenting these sculptures at this location, that would probably clear up the confusion very quickly.
I get what you are saying and I’d feeel the same from your point of view too. If it were fake or whatever I wouldn’t be here appealing it. That wouldn’t make sense to bring attention to it if it were fake. I’m going to visit my buddy’s house sometime this week so I’ll swing by and get a better pic and double check the location of pin too. It’s possible I was off on location so I’ll double check no problem.
What I find strange too is the gate keeping of pokestops. Seems to me the more pokestops around the more likely players will play more. Kinda how a lot of my community feels too when we are at meet ups too. We’ve discussed the disappearing of many gyms and pokestops too and we don’t get it.
You would be surprised how often we do get to see people complaining why their fake wayspot was removed.
But yes, more often it is probably a genuine mistake, and sometimes the surroundings have actually changed. I also misplaced a wayspot once, and had to use the helpchat to move it to the correct location.
You call it gatekeeping, but frankly most people joined this forum as active wayfarers to create more stops, we just follow the rulebook on what to accept. Most people at this forum do consider creating fake wayspots as cheating for game purposes.
FYI, the hurdle to remove a wayspot is a lot higher than to get a wayspot approved. Removing can only be done by Scopeley, and they always do this based upon evidence.
Edit: most of us here will actually try to find some kind of evidence to see if a wayspot can be reinstated, but very often we just have to agree, that the removal was correct.
In this case, we could not find supporting evidence.
Totally understand your view point and I share most of that too. I’ve been playing since day 1 like I said so my wife and I enjoy playing as it’s our thing we do together. We’ve built a great community of friends in the game. We just moved to this new town a little down the way so I’m still getting to know the area.
Gatekeeping maybe too harsh of a term too just what came to mind as I’m frustrated because this isn’t a fake one. Well I more mean there’s no malicious intention from me here. Hope that makes sense just waking up and having my coffee haha.
I fully understand the frustration (at first all my nominations were rejected, and I had no clue what I did wrong).
Often the GPS coordinates are stored om your phone (if you used your phone to get the pictures). On an iphone for example it is very easy to see the location (press the (i) to see the coordinates)
With my field of work I have to clear all stored coordinates pretty often. So I can’t do that. If it doesn’t get reinstated it’s ok. Figured I’d give it a shot. The responses and help from yall has brightened my day though! A lot of ppl here trying to help!
