Allotments appeal rejected

Thought I’d come on here again and share yet another appeal rejection.

The other month I tried to submit some allotments and both got rejected. Luckily, one appeal did get accepted, so I’m more than happy.

However, this appeal for the other entrance (tried my luck to see if multiple entrances could go in) kind of annoyed me of why they reasoned it for being rejected.

Even if they rejected it as a duplicate, then that would have been much fairer and less annoying, and i would have not created this post.

Like I say, one entrance is already in game, so I’m more than happy, but come on, appeal staff seem to need slightly more training by my experiences?

Sorry, but it is frustrating and demotivating.

One thing to consider is that what we call Allotments, some people will call a Community Garden. So it should be forgiven that it got rejected unfairly. Hopefully it can get through as they are valid.

Which is why its more annoying that it got rejected via appeal (staff!)

Its the automated process that sucks. Can’t get it through no matter the angle.

I think the rejection reason is wrong.

However in my view ( other opinions are available :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:) I would probably have duplicated it. I think 1 wayspot for for an allotment such as this is reasonable. So I would regard the approved one as that. The fact that it is called entrance is I feel stretching it the entrance is not the point of interest, it is not the place to meet criteria but the allotments are. There really is only a short distance ( just over 100m ) along same road so it doesn’t seem that different.

I know I might get my knuckles bruised, but I can see a valid reason for multiple entrances being approved. Especially on large allotment sites. Some may have sites on one end where an entrance there would make it easier to get to their lot. But I do get why some would say only one should be allowed, but I will counter that by saying that if that is the case… only one park entrance should be allowed.

I would have much rather it have been duplicated rather than the reason it has been given, which is the reason I am slightly irritated.

No rapping of knuckles :joy:

I agree that on a large allotment it might be justified, they often have separate info boards etc.

same as a large park you could justify several entrance as a having access to exercise etc. but not every park entrance is acceptable as they might be close

But this case, it is not large and a short distance down the road. Hence I would expect duplicate.

Whether the conveying the decision wrongly is enough to change is up to the team.

Imo allotments are not a community garden. Both are eligible to me, but with allotments, every person gets their own plot where they can garden, relax etc., while a community garden is tended collectively? Or are you guys using the term differently?

I would say it’s somewhere in between. Each allotment is rented by an individual. But the Allotments as a whole co operate and there will be a single members allotment society to run that allotment. There will be communal areas for e change of produce, seeds etc.

they are great places and vary enormously in size.

Definitions matter here.

Community Garden in the UK. As an example, on underground and mainline stations there are small plots of plants and stuff that are managed either by the station of community groups. In the US, it is plots of land in a shared space where people grow whatever they want (veg, etc).

Allotments is a UK thing that is equivalent to a Community Garden in the US.
