Appeal for restoration of Emma and the Silk Train

  • Wayspot Title: Emma and the Silk Train
  • Location (lat/lon): 49.224952, -123.159056
  • City: Vancouver
  • Country: Canada

This feature is a city-maintained “Reading Lights” plaque associated with Vancouver Public Library.

It is indexed on their website here: https://www.vpl.ca/readinglights/emma-and-silk-train

I have attached a current photo as of today.

I don’t know why it was deleted, but for five years it was a popular “ex-gym” in pokemon go. Unfortunately, the gym has now moved out of the park and into the middle of a bike path which is much less suitable for hosting groups of players. It would be great if things could be set back as they were yesterday.

Thanks!

Welcome to the forum @gungadinblue

Whilst the wayfarer team do have the power to reinstate removed wayspots, they do not have any control over how they’re used in individual games. Therefore, if this is restored, it will likely reappear as a Pokéstop and not as a Gym, as you stated that another Gym was created in this Level 14 S2 Cell when this wayspot was removed.

Hi Hank,

I feared that might be the case - that it might not come back as a gym - but I still hope to be mistaken. The new location is clearly inferior, and to tie the reviewers hands would invite malicious deletions specifically to move gyms.

It’s been a couple days, and perfection being the enemy of good-enough, I think it’s possible this appeal has gotten lost. To clarify:

If you can restore the gym, then please do that.

But, if you can only restore the POI, then please do that.

Emma and the Silk Train anchored some of the earliest routes in pokemon go, created hours after the feature went live for L50 players. There were literally thousands of community trips on it, and it’d be a shame to lose all that if I have to renominate it from scratch.

Thanks again!

Hello again. I know this POI isn’t the Eiffel Tower, but let me take another moment to promote its virtues:

  • It’s a city-registered location with an official website.

  • Its nature is to promote children’s literacy.

  • It’s in a city park.

  • It’s more than five years old and still maintained.

  • It’s visible on google streetview:

It’s been nearly a week. Can we hit the undo button? Is there somewhere else I should be sending this appeal?

Staff can sometimes take a while to review appeals. Please be patient and they will get around to making a decision on it eventually.

I agree, you got to be patient, but you also need to be persistent. But 5 days with no response does seem kinda long.

Actually I just looked through some of the other appeals, and the response time seems be around a week minimum, some going to 10+ days before a response.

Good luck

Emma is back (as a pokestop), and it took a while for them to show up but some or all of the routes have been restored as well.

I’ve heard that people sent in complaints about the deletion through the pokemon-go support tab, so I don’t know if my appeal here was successful, or if they were! Anyway, the cell is fairly open so hopefully I can restore the gym with a few more nominations.

Probably combination of all of it. Anyway. Congrats

Did I understand you right?
The wayspot was completely gone. Than it was restored and previous attached routes were reinstated (incl. stats) too?
That’s the first time that I hear that is possible.
However, congratulations

Yes, the POI (originally a gym) was gone, and is now returned as a pokestop. Routes reattached later, in a way that almost looked like one-at-a-time operations.

Thanks for the appeal, @gungadinblue! After reviewing the additional evidence provided, we’ve decided to restore the Wayspot in question.

Please note: The changes will not reflect in Ingress. Ingress Prime is no longer associated with Wayfarer.
