Hi Scoble,
I am reaching out to formally explain the circumstances surrounding my recent nomination of the Chauvel Training Depot Heritage Sign. I received a policy warning for this submission, and I want to clarify that it was made in complete good faith due to a genuine misunderstanding of what the facility actually is.
When I submitted the sign, I honestly thought the “Chauvel Training Depot” was a civilian training facility aimed at education, community instruction, or historical vocational training. Because of the name, it never crossed my mind that it was a restricted-access military installation.
I now understand that “Training Depot” is the traditional military term used by the Australian Army Reserve and the Department of Defence for an active, secure base. Had I realized it was a restricted military site, I absolutely would not have nominated it, as I have no intention of violating safety guidelines, bypassing restrictions, or encouraging anyone to trespass.
I completely accept that the sign is ineligible and that the nomination must be rejected. However, I wanted to provide this context to show that this was an honest mistake based on a semantic mix-up, rather than an intentional attempt to abuse the system.
Thank you for taking the time to read this, and I appreciate your understanding.
