Does anybody has any experience with any interchange between the roles between gyms and pokestops?
I mean, not any physical movements, but switch a stop to a gym and a gym to a stop. I guess it’s impossible (?), but you know - the thought may pop in your head when you see some ‘too many’ gyms crowded together…

There are many posts here that discuss.
There is no option to request a change from stop to gym / gym to stop.
It is all worked on Cells. The map is split in to L17 (small cells). There is also L14 (large cells) which contain 64 L17 cells.
Only 1 Wayspot (stop or gym) in each L17 cell.
When a L14 cell hits a set number of occupied L17 cells 1 stop will change to a gym…
2 Wayspots = 1 Stop + 1 Gym
6 Wayspots = 4 Stops + 2 Gyms
20 Wayspots = 17 Stops + 3 Gyms
There used to be a way using photo votes to determine which would become a Gym but it is widely believed that it is now random (or at least largely random).
