Well that is one way to get the Pokemon Go prompts corrected! This should help a lot, when we are all submitting the same way.
Not a surprising change, given that the website was basically superior in every way to the in app submission process. Hopefully this results in less confusion for newer wayfarers, given that there’s no game specific terminology.
I am
% behind this change. It is never a good idea to have 2 different processes to do the same job. There is always the chance that a fix on 1 side is not implemented on the other etc.
Will just have to get used to Wayfarer on Mobile. Always stuck to desktop up until now ![]()
I don’t do Wayfarer on mobile. I only use mobile to add photos to my draft. I do everything else on my computer.
I am not a fan of this, at all. When trying to submit waypoints inside buildings or outdoor areas that are obscured on satellite view, I (and pretty sure many others) rely on using the game already tracking location to get the pin placed correctly. This is simply not available when submitting via the website unless you give the entire browser application access to location, which I am not comfortable doing.
On top of that, it makes submitting waypoints in person much more difficult since it would now be required to run 3 apps at once (camera to take photos, PoGo to start the process, and web browser to finish it.) I already have issues running out of RAM sometimes with just taking photos and then going back into PoGo, having to throw in a web browser on top of that will just make the issue worse.
I’ve also heard from other folks in my area that are active with wayfarer that this change would mean the end of being able to upload later, which would create further issues in areas with weak cell signal or any other sort of connection problems.
This is not a smoother process, it’s a huge headache. Please do not go through with this.
Web submissions offer a draft feature. Take your pictures and go right to the Web page. Enter minimal information and save as draft. There’s no need to load the game at all to do Wayfarer when using Web submission.
You need to be careful with this. Sometimes gps inside building may not be accurate. You could end up in the wrong side of the building. Even with ingame submission, you need to repin manually to fine adjust the location
Actually you can just take many foto first. And submit them later as long its less than 10km. So it doesnt matter if the area have weak signal.
So far this has mainly applied to heavily forested outdoor areas where this isn’t much of an issue - though I do try to check location in multiple ways for nominations where it’s difficult to get it right. Still, losing the ingame location tracking means one less tool available, and in my experience, one of the better ones.
I prefer to not do that to avoid the risk of adding the wrong photo(s) to nominations. Typically, I take the main & supporting photos immediately before submitting, then move on to the next one if submitting multiple. Since that means being out and about, I’m also already playing during that time. So having to add web browser to that just adds more steps to a process that already works perfectly fine for me. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it…
It is difficult in Forested areas.
The websubmit should be able to take the geolocation data on the photo to produce a pin placement automatically on the map.
When I can I prefer to upload an image as it does help stop confusion.
Using draft means that on good WiFi later you can change the image ( so crop it and reload for example) , alter the location pin within a 80m radius.
I have been practicing taking the photos as I go so I know it’s a sequence with screenshots of phone map interspersed so I can double check. But only logging title and location at that time, trail name and then sorting out later. Effectively this leaves a series of pin placements for me to sort at my leisure - in the dry.
You only need to enable it for the wayfarer website specifically, and wayfarer already knows which area you’ve been playing recently thanks to Pokémon Go anyway. So it’s not like you’re giving them any data they don’t already have.
I understand this issue with potentially using the wrong photo. I submit a lot of pools and tennis courts that look alike and can easily get mixed up. Trail markers are easy to mix up as well. You will need to change your workflow a little bit.
- Take photos.
- Review photos to determine which ones you want to use (delete any you don’t need).
- Change the name of the photos so you know which wayspot they are for. (I had to figure out how to do this on Android, but it’s easy.)
- Create the draft onsite without attaching the photos.
- Hit save/submit on the draft so that it registers you are there within 10km of the location.
- LATER when you have better mobile service or wifi, add the easy to identify photos to the draft and submit them.
- Then you still have a chance to edit the titke and text on your Contributions page if you need to.
Another tip to help you select the right photo on web submit. This may look a little different for you, but here is what the photo selection process looks like for me on android.
Those thumbnails are too small, IMO. But if i tap that grid icon I’ve circled, i can see larger thumbnails of the photos.
You will see a larger photo and at least the beginning of the file name for the photo (which you have changed if you followed the steps above). (Here’s a fun view of the boots i wore yesterday to honor Dolly Parton.)
I have created a topic to try and pull advice about websubmit together based on experience of using it.
If you already have posted some advice feel free to copy it to that topic, but try to keep the topic chatter free……that can go here![]()
How will the photo submissions work? I like being able to just snap the pic in the PGo app and upload vs having to provide a link to one. Will that be the case on the website?
That’s an edit, so no change I believe.
noooooo T.T
I pay for my usage with mobile service, and my phone runs incredibly hot.
because of this, I rely heavily on Focus Mode to keep all apps shut while I’m running PoGo and taking my photos. that includes my web browser (and also means I cannot charge my phone while I’m out playing PoGo, it gets too hot). even at that, I lose zoom features in my photo app because it’s too hot.
my web browsers, along with pokemon go, are my biggest data hogs. so my web browsers are the biggest reason I use Focus Mode when out.
this means I’m going to have to lift Focus Mode and have the floodgates open for data and battery usage on top of PoGo and my camera app. or I have to remove my default browser from Focus Mode and add it back, and that’s frustratingly cumbersome, especially when the web browsers are the main reason I use it.
this is going to be a prohibitive change for me.
I’d recommend that when you’re nominating, keep PoGo closed. Take your pictures with your camera app, then close the camera app and open the browser to submit. You no longer need PoGo to be running.
- You can take photos on the spot, and upload them later as long as you’re within 10km.
- Camera app uses little to none data – photo sync does, but you can limit it to wifi only
- Taking a few photos with default camera app shouldn’t consume that much power
but pogo keeps running in the background, doesn’t it? they have adventure sync and that new explorer gadget thing and so it keeps running?
If you use the pull up from the bottom buttons you should have a “Close All Apps” option (Android).
