Hey everyone, I personally think that if wayspot submissions have an identical main and supporting photo, that submitters should be unable to submit & they should be notified that they actually need to use proper environmental pictures.
What do y’all think of this suggestion? I personally think this could help increase quality of submissions.
I see where you are coming from with all your efforts to combat the AI plague, but I am uncertain this would help. Besides the abusers simply cropping their fakes, I am afraid this would prevent some good wayspots from being submitted where the explorer forgot to take a second photo, or the supporting photo turned out to be unusable. It also doesn’t address the issue where people submit 5 different supporting photos without including the point of interest in any of them.
I think the AI issue needs to be addressed at the “automated process” level. I am completely ignorant of the process behind educating a machine learning model, though, and this could simply be impossible.
Actually this is an excellent idea, and certainly not too difficult. Technically it would just mean to include the same kind of scan we reviewers would do, and depending on the required level of accuracy, this could immediately flag potential abuse.
AI however is not free, I don’t have a clue about the additional costs, but this would certainly give us human reviewers more confidence that we are looking at real pictures.
I’m not saying this against the AI plague actually, I’m saying this primarily for all the low effort waystops I see, with borderline acceptable descriptions/supporting infos where people take a single, rather poor picture, and just submit a low quality submission.
I personally agree though, that there should be some AI checking process that uses the APIs for image verification from popular AI vendors - although I know this costs money and likely is the reason for it not happening yet.
