Generic very low severity offense

I submitted several wayspot recommendations for historic buildings in Norway. It was a lot of effort to research and write a text for every single one. Niantic not only rejected all them, but also sent me this email:

Following a report and an internal investigation performed by our team, we have confirmed that the content you contributed on 8/21/26, 4:00:58 PM UTC is violating one or more policies. We have taken action against it.

Here is more information:

Content: Christiania Gasværk
Policy Violated: Generic very low severity offense

I would like to understand precisely why Niantic had decided that my hard work of so very offensive to them. I will of course also be leaving Pokémon permanently.

Welcome to the forum

If you want to understand, but are going to quit wayfarer and Pokemon Go regardless of the explanation, then it isn’t worth much of anyone’s time to assist.

Without the text, all you have shown is an old building. This isn’t eligible just for being an old building.

Hey @Martinisandpop1 ,

Please check my DM for the details.

Best,

I understand that it can be frustrating to receive a rejection, especially one that also comes with a generic warning where it can be unclear why you received it. It can be for any number of reasons, but I think it’s important to focus on the fact that it is low-severity (e.g. you made a very minor infraction), and that it is not a “warning” as described on the infraction ladder - i.e. it doesn’t mean you are any closer to getting a suspension for further infractions.

It is of course very difficult for others to guess why you received it. I see that Aaron has now messaged you with details, but my guess would otherwise have been that it was due to its current use, as it appears to function as an addiction treatment facility, which could make it ineligible under the rejection rules:

Location is a private residential property (even if historical), farmland, a K12 and under school (preschool, primary/elementary, secondary/high school), child care/daycare center, rehabilitation center, safety shelter

Thank you for your reply! The building has several uses - there’s also a pub, but maybe that’s it.

Sorry for not adding the text. My complaint isn’t the rejection, it’s getting a warning for trying to contribute.

Here’s the text.

The historic, protected administration building of Christiania Gasværk, Norway’s first gasworks factory. Designed in 1883 by the prominent architect Georg Andreas Bull, this magnificent Neo-Romanesque brick structure is a key piece of Oslo’s late 19th-century industrial and municipal history.

What kind of message did you receive from Aaron? The image you attached—please note that there are guidelines advising against using third-party images on this forum. Of course, they cannot be used for Wayspot nominations either.

Since the photo in the opening post is taken from Facebook, the op is lucky they only got a generic low-level offense flag. This could easily have resulted in a suspension.

@Martinisandpop1 I expect Aaron pointed out what @CrownFeather spotted - it is a strict rule that you must take the main photo yourself.
