Got flagged as harassment/ abuse on a map submission

  • Wayspot Title: Gemeentekaart Goirle

  • Location (lat/lon): 51.529652, 5.063161

  • City: Goirle

  • Country: The Netherlands

  • Screenshot of the Rejection Email (do not include your personal information):

  • Additional Information (if any):

This is map of the municipality of Goirle, highlighting several important locations. I understand this sign is somewhat overwhelmed with ads, and that this image might have looked like an advertisement sign, or possibly confused as being part of the bus stop due to it’s close location to it. I however do not see a reason for this to be marked as location abuse or abuse, harassment, ridiculing a person/ group of people.

I double checked the location through OpenStreetMap, which is ±10 meters off. The red marker being where the submission is, the yellow circle where it would be. As you can see the trees on Google Maps make it tough to pinpoint. So I’ll say it’s not the most accurate location, but abuse seems far fetched.

Updated location: 51.529472, 5.063222

If not eligible for a wayspot due to the majority of the sign being taken up by ads, fine. Then I would love to have an explaination as to why this is harassment and abuse.

Kind regards.

Welcome to the forum @SeTry .

Whilst satellite view does have tree cover obscuring it, street view does quite clearly show the object and could’ve been used as a way to make sure you were setting the pin correctly.

As the submitter, the onus is on you to make sure your submission is accurate before it enters the voting system.

An additional issue that may have been noted here is that the correct coordinates for this wayspot appear to potentially be in the same cell as “De zaaier” (it is very marginal, though), meaning it wouldn’t be eligible to appear in game, whilst the coordinates you actually submitted it at would’ve bypassed this restriction. You may not have done this intentionally or even necessarily known about how Pokémon Go determines Pokéstop density, but it could look suspicious to anyone reviewing your nomination who does know about those things.

Welcome to the forum

This has been flagged for the incorrect location, which has been deemed to be an abusive mislocation. The resulting text is extremely misleading and means nothing, so what matters is “does not exist at the nominated location”.

Deliberately mislocating submissions, for example pushing them over a cell boundary into an empty cell in order to get a pokestop, is considered abuse and risks both your wayfarer and game accounts.

When I looked, it appears to me that it is definitely within the occupied cell. According to StreetView it’s here:

While this may not have been deliberate, you aren’t going to be able to prove that, and you must be able to see how this would look to an outside observer.

In your position, I would be very glad that I hadn’t been sanctioned for this, as I’ve seen it happen to people for similar situations.

It is a shame you misplaced it, as the existing wayspot at 51.529522,5.063073, should be removed for being at private property, if placed at the correct location, your nomination would show in the game (as soon as “De Zaaier” is removed)

Thank you all for welcoming me, replying and informing me, especially on the riduculing/ abuse to a certain group just being a general text that is included within the category as @salixsorbus said. Weird on their end, because it makes it seem more extreme than it is.

As for the misplaced location, I will resubmit it with the corrected location. (as suggested by @pokemaster4u2) I don’t care too much about Pokéstop vs Power Spot, especially in this particular area where people within our community have complained about a lack of powerspots. Not my intent to misplace the marker. I did get a warning for it in game and in my mail the next morning after creating this post, but I am seemingly still able to request wayspots and some have been accepted in the meantime, so not much too worry about. I will try to get more accustomed to the newer system of requesting through the site (as this was the first stop I believe to have added through this system) and double checked other submission’s location made since.

Seeing as there is no real consequence for this particular abuse warning, since it’s the first one; Is there any reason to appeal it? As @00witsd mentioned, there is no real way for me to prove this.

If they did not send you a formal email warning about this with a link to contact them to appeal, then there is nothing to appeal. It is just a rejected nomination for the reason of misplacement. Just be more careful going forward.

Do you have something like this? If not, then there is nothing to worry. Its just nomination rejection

Sure do.

Its 1st strike from abuse ladder system then.
Next strike might be 30days suspension. Since you admit your submission got missplaced, appeal probably wont change anything.

You have 1 year redemption period where this strike will be gone after 1 year of clean record. So i suggest you to recheck your nomination going forward

Yeah, as I say, there’s no way to prove it was an accident, and it was definitely misplaced, so I would take the warning as a warning, and be more careful going forward.

As others have said, in a year this will be cleared from your record, so it shouldn’t be anything to worry about so long as it doesn’t happen again before that!
