I can't tell if they're being serious or if they're messing with me

Hi everyone,

I’m writing on the forum to share a rejection that I find frankly absurd, and to ask for your advice on how to proceed—or hopefully catch the attention of a moderator.

I recently nominated the “Resti Circolari Antico Circo Romano” (Circular Remains of an Ancient Roman Circus) located in Vallericcia. The nomination was initially rejected for “lacking uniqueness or historical/cultural significance”. Certain of the Wayspot’s value, I appealed, asking for a manual review and emphasizing that it is a permanent historical artifact located in a safe, pedestrian-accessible area.

The response from the Niantic team to the appeal was the following: the nomination does not meet the criteria because “it seems to be a normal firepit”.

I find this reasoning absolutely surreal. You just need to check any public topographic or archaeological map to see that the entire Vallericcia is a widely documented Roman-era archaeological zone. The stone remains in the valley are certainly not just rocks piled up for an impromptu bonfire or BBQ, but historical ruins that make the area a “great place to explore.”

How should I go about resubmitting this nomination to prevent a millennia-old artifact from being mistaken for a picnic area again? Is there a way to ensure that reviewers (or those handling appeals) actually check the provided archaeological maps before making such hasty judgments?

Thanks in advance to anyone who can offer some advice

Can we see your entire nomination please? Did you provide any links that support your claims?

Note del ricorso

Thanks for the appeal, Wayfinder! The nomination in question does not meet the Wayfarer criteria as it seems to be a normal firepit. If this assessment is not accurate, please resubmit the nomination with additional context. We recommend you review the Wayspot Criteria and Forum Criteria Discussions Library sections before submitting your next Wayspot contribution: Wayfarer — Scopely Explore Technical Support and Help Center and Forum Criteria Discussions Library — Wayfarer Help Center

Your picture certainly isn’t helping. Your supporting photo is gorgeous while your main photo looks very grainy.

The photo was taken from the Ariccia Bridge precisely because you get a good view from there; however, since it is far away, the zoom can only do so much.

Are you not able to walk right up to it? If that’s the case, then it would fail under safe access.

Imo you need more proof than a Google Maps link with 2 reviews (one of them being “nothing to see here”)

Nothing stands in the way; it is located in the middle of an open field.

That’s good! Then I would encourage you to walk right up to it and take a great picture.

Well, they’re Roman ruins. You certainly won’t find actors performing inside them :')

ok, thankyou very much!

Well I’d expect they’d be mentioned online somewhere. This is the criteria clarification for ruins.

In addition to going down to that field to get a good photo of the ruins, I would look to see if there is any signage for this. The idea of “signfarer” is annoying at times, but if there is a sign for this, that may be the better image to submit.

The supporting photo is gorgeous.

You need to prove that its really worth exploring. Your foto doesnt help.just word is not enough, because people tend to say anything to get their nomination approved (i am not saying you did this) If you can find weblink mentioning this particular firepit, it would help. Without it, it will be hard to get it approved

I think if I’d seen this in review, I’d have rejected for photo quality unfortunately. I think you need a much better main photo like the others said, and that will also show off the PoI much better and possibly help to counter the “lacks significance/normal” rejections.

Based on the WFMM map shortcut that was copied and pasted, you submitted this at 41.722186,12.670269.

That is over 100 metres away from the location of the fire pit on Google Maps.

Any users who wanted to approve this would need to reject as you cannot move a location during review >100 metres.

Location edits on this nomination >100m are not allowed. If the accurate location is >100m, reject the nomination.
