Hello so I know the requirements for a pokestop but I have a unique situation and I live just right outside of town there are some things around my location that I believe I could use for a pokestop but my situation is that we have a very medically complex child that is wheelchair-bound and we can’t take her out often due to her medical needs and I was trying to figure out if there is a way that I can get a pokey stop somewhere close to my house where she will be able to play I know that this is not a standard request and that’s why I’m not sure how to go about trying to make it happen.
Please provide:
A screenshot of your nomination, including rejection reasons if it has already been rejected
Include the title, description, both photos, and supplemental information
Copy and paste the title, description and supplemental so others can translate them
If you feel comfortable please share the location, as it is helpful (i.e. hidden duplicates), but you can mask it if you wish.
I’m sorry your family is dealing with that. I can absolutely understand wanting to find a way for your child to enjoy Pokémon GO from home.
The difficult part is that Wayfarer eligibility is based on the real-world object and location, not on an individual player’s circumstances. Creating or placing something specifically so it can become a PokéStop near a private residence can run into the private residential property and location-abuse rules, even when the reason behind it is completely understandable.
You might have better luck looking for existing eligible places nearby that she can safely access from the car or wheelchair, such as a public park feature, pavilion, trail marker, public art piece, community center, church, library, or other gathering place.
Mod Edit: Removed reference to third party products.
We will happily give advice on the sort of things that you have found and are wondering about.
You describe yourself as out of town What does that mean? Does that mean very rural, or edge of town housing estate or A small village?
Having a wheelchair user and if there are additional needs sounds as though you have to plan trips outside of the home carefully.
A strategy is to try and maximise the experience when you do go out.
Have you a local community ambassador group? Do they organise meet ups are those wheelchair friendly?
As a community we try to find solutions but we need to know more to help.
I empathise with your situation. I have an autistic child with sensory issues so different situation but I understand looking for ways to play Pokemon Go, etc in support of a child. I’m trying to encourage my child out of the house :).
Have a read of the Tips for Rural Nominators to see if that has ideas for you.. Tips for Rural Nominators
Otherwise the prior suggestion of a mainline Switch 2 game is great if you can afford it. Scarlet/Violet, Legends Z-A or Pokopia look great.
Pokemon Go’s interaction range is about 80m, so you don’t necessarily need something right in front of your house. Start nominating within that radius. Try a neighborhood sign.
Or the more arduous path, you check your property boundary lines, then check your local bylaws, if it is all clear then you put a little free library right outside boundary lines, like on the road verge.
It is possible to get a pokestop near your house without the intervention of staff.
I would add to make sure this is not breaking any laws in your area. It should also look professional and not something knocked together just to get a wayspot that will be removed as soon as it’s accepted.
We live about a mile out of town just off of highway. The community is very small here and I’m not even sure if there’s other pokémon players in the area I’ve never run into any. Is she goes outside the house to get air and things like that but we don’t do a lot of big outings into town due to illnesses and germs that she can be exposed to does that answer your questions
So if you look around the area you do go out to is there anything there?
Is there a place people meet up? A church? , a noticeboard? Although you may not use it a trailhead?
A little free library for those nearby to exchange books?
Are there any communal objects/places in the vicinity.
If there is nothing then like @ChicagoRay312 said other Pokémon games might provide more fun and are designed to be done indoors as opposed to one designed to go outside.
It sounds like even if you could get your daughter a spinner near your house, PGO would still be a fairly lonely game for her because it is meant to be a game people meet up in person to play.
Mod Edit: Removed the part that was not in accordance with the Forum guidelines.
Even if you can get pokestop/gym within range, you still wont get full game experience. Pokemon go is more fun for people who went outside and interact with community.
