Missing Pokestops that exist in Wayfarer

Attached below is the Elmhurst Public Library in Elmhurst, Illinois, as shown in Pokemon Go.

As you can see, there is no pokestops or power spots, though there are still spawns here. After talking with some locals, who have played consistently for 2+ years in the area, there has apparently “no stops in the time that they’ve played” at this library, as well as in the direct area surrounding it.

However, two sources confirm that there are wayspots in seemingly open cells at the library. One of these two is the actual Pokemon Go app, shown below, which shows multiple wayspots that are on library grounds.

The other source is IITC mobile, which I admittedly note hasn’t been updated to show new wayspots since late May/early June, when Pokemon Go was sold to Scopely. However, it proves that there are cells that are unoccupied on this property.

Here’s why I think something is missing in this scenario:

  1. My first thought was that the library requested stops to be removed at some point in time. However, this seems very unlikely. For one, if the stops were removed, they would have also been removed from the IITC map, barring any mistakes. They couldn’t have been removed since the sale of Pokemon Go to Scopely since, as I mentioned before, some of the locals said that they were already long gone before that point. Secondly, there are still spawns here, and if the library did really request their removal, Niantic would have likely blacklisted any spawns also- correct me if I’m wrong.
  2. IITC used to only show actually accepted wayspots. I know that some rejected wayspots still become power spots, but since the waypoints show up both when submitting a new pokestop AND in IITC, they would have had to been eligible, accepted wayspots. And even if I’m wrong about all of that, the wayspots I’m talking about are mostly memorial plaques and the actual library entrance sign, which should all be eligible.

I’m not sure if the wayspots were ever actually in Pokemon Go, or if they were removed, but I feel like some way or another, they should be added in some capacity to the game. Of course, only one per open cell, but there is at least three cells near the library that are unoccupied in POGO.

Quickly I have a few questions, if anyone can even figure out what is going on in this scenario-

  1. Am I missing any key wayfarer facts that is impacting this scenario? I’ve been doing wayfarer for quite a few years now, but I also took some time off, so I may have missed new details.
  2. If I submit new stops in these cells, would they be added as pokestops? Or would they simply become a wayspot in another game, since these cells are technically filled already.
  3. How would I be able to check locations that are marked to not have pokestops? I don’t know what the word is- blacklisted? I can’t remember, but hopefully you understand.

Attached below is the exact coordinates for the library, if you’re interested. Feel free to ask any questions that I’ll try to answer  . Sorry that this was a long read.

Not necessarily, depending on the request, waypoints could have been removed in PoGo only.

Also not standard procedure, black listing spawn is even more rare as this isnt something normally requested.

No, the cell or property would be salted and not eligible for PoGo

This looks like a situation where the property owner has requested pogo game locations be removed.

If you submit these that are showing as portals, yes, they will marked as duplicate.

If you submit different wayspots, it will depend on whether a geo block is in place where you submitted them. I don’t know a way to confirm the area of the geo block except to try and see if they don’t go live.

The only way to confirm the game locations have been removed is to ask here and have staff confirm it for you.

thanks for your help- could a staff member confirm, if possible?

They sometimes do. I would advise waiting to see if they do.

Hi @00Jacques, I can confirm that there is a restriction at this location placed at the request of the property owner.
