Hello everyone I need help with another submission. I nominated a local historical fountain but it got rejected. I appealed saying its a historical and unique fountain. Appeal said I need to provide more information to show its a unique place. I searched local cultural maps to see if its actually unique and I found it on a local architectural map which shows almost every historical and unique architectural pieces in Turkey. I resubmitted again with this information but it got automatically rejected again. So how can I improve this submission?

Just because something is old doesn’t mean that it is “historic.” Do you have any idea how old this fountain is? Their answer explains that since this is just a common drinking fountain, it needs to have something special about it to be eligible. Many people think all fountains are eligible, but most drinking fountains are not. It is typically decorative fountains that make good wayspots.
Its not a common drinking fountain. I don’t know its exact building date but i assume its almost 100 years old since older people in our community used this fountain when they were kids. To add there are older fountains nearby predate to 18th century.
I think for submitting something like this that looks like old infrastructure, you’d want to include some specific details about it ie date of installation, details about design, relevent local history etc.
Just saying its historic and around 100 years old is not convincing enough personally
You need proof of its history. It would help to know how old the building is. Check to see if there are any makers marks on the foundation or if it is on a historic registry.
Unfortunately there are no markings or signs around the fountain but it is included in a local map which shows historic and iconic buildings
Logically the fountian was not made before the building. It was likley installed when the building was built. So having proof (a mark, a website, the tour info) for the actual building will help convince reviewers.
But we’re still back to the cultural significance. The spigot has been removed so this is no longer an active fountain. The only way it can be eligible is through cultural significance. With no markings to explain that it is more than what was common infrastructure “back in the day,” I’m still not convinced. AI seems to think these kinds of fountains are fairly common.
Since the building next to it is closed to visitors it doesn’t have any marks but the architectural style of the building is similar to nearby historic buildings with Late Ottoman Style (1880-1910).
Even though it is not active right now it is still a unique and interesting location since no other small fountains with similar style remain in the area and it is included in a regional heritage website
So, it seems like that website is user-submitted content? When I’m looking for proof that something has historic significance, i want the source to be a historic society or someone with authority on the subject. This website you’ve linked is just a catalog that is not much different than Wayfarer. It lists that the item exists and where it is, but it does not give any explanation for why it is significant. I would not use this as proof of its cultural importance.
