New Changes in Wayfarer - Discussion

Please consider doing something similar for desktop, where pin placement is defaulted to current location (for photos without a geotag). There should not be a default at all in case people forget to correct it.

I’ve seen multiple posts where location had to be fixed after and people getting a warning/ban due to this.

Hi,

It’s great that the team are providing a fix for mobile users. I hope this proves a benefit for them. It will give them the reassurance of having to make a positive choice to move the pin. And then confirm it to lock position.

Much better:clap:

Can we expect the same for non mobile users?

As an iPad user I move by scrolling just like mobile users.

I would like that same level of interaction when I submit.

Soon™️??

Is there a reason why non mobile users can’t

It’s a long time since I looked in to this.

In those days most websites that needed this function would use the page resolution, sort of like…

If width < 1080 then assume it’s mobile.

With mobiles getting bigger resolutions this was not ideal so browsers started passing more details so the code was more “If Mobile then…”

It was very hit or miss back then so I assume it has improved.

This is a long winded way of saying that your iPad may already be treated as Mobile.

I don’t think so ….but the tech stuff goes over my head.

So some observations

I am a big fan of websubmit, but was out walking beyond the 10km limit - longer distance would be very good.

I was trying to do drafts

I have an iPhone SE about 18 months old, and on latest iOS no plugins

It’s a relatively small phone. Trying to simply confirm location plus a title to save as draft was not great. The signal was variable so drafting for places not where i am standing.
Manipulating the map to get a reasonable location was frustrating.

The huge amount of space taken up by stuff at the top and bottom only leaves a small space in the middle to try and manoeuvre the map zooming using 2 fingers just left very little space to see what where I was on the map.

It was a nice day I dread doing this on a wet screen. My manual dexterity is not great.

I like websubmit and drafts, but this was just too fiddly when out and about in variable conditions.

I thought if you got it close enough while within range, you could move it later a short distance, which should alleviate that problem?

You can and I certainly do.

There was variable signal and when I got to somewhere with a decent signal I wanted to use it.

So I was trying to scroll to find places under 1 km away, but the area was a lot of fairly plain countryside and being confident was where I was, felt tricky ( I have previously mistaken one similar looking path junction for another:joy:). So it was tricky with 2 fat fingers and little space, and being confident I was close enough. :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:
