Nomination rejected for abuse/harassment? What?

I am no stranger to Wayspot rejections, but today’s rejection has me stunned:

Title and description are straightforward:
Vini’s Pizzeria and Catering
Local pizza staple that has been serving Elk Grove Village since 1998.

I am unfortunately out of appeals at the moment so I can’t do anything about this. I don’t live super close to this POI (I’m in that area maybe once a month) so I can’t re-nominate it anytime soon. This nomination sat in voting for 2 weeks just to be rejected for “abuse, ridicule, or harassment of a specific person or group.”

I am honestly very confused as to how this happened. This is a local small business that has been around for nearly 30 years and is the only one of its kind (not a chain). I could understand a “not permanent or distinct” rejection, although I would disagree myself, but that’s neither here nor there. I’m stunned to how this was rejected for abuse, and I’m concerned about the rejection reason affecting my Wayfarer record.

The rejection e-mail I received did specify that at some level, this had gone through Niantic/Scopely Explore’s team has it had the “our team has decided etc etc” text. Which makes me even more confused. Is “Vini” a slur or something I’m not aware of? Do reviewers think I’m trying to make fun of the football player? What is going on here?

Welcome to the forum.

This is just the way the rejection prints out when reviewers have checked the abuse box. It should say “OR” after the word abuse. Usually it turns out that the nomination was mislocated or the photo was third party. Could either of these apply?

Are you absolutely sure that you placed the pin correctly?

The ‘abuse etc.’ message is fairly misleading and can be caused by a number of things including fake or third-party images, wildly inaccurate descriptions, and most commonly misplacement of the pin that’s way off, nudged into a different cell, placed on someone’s house or something else that made reviewers suspect deliberate manipulation.

If you accidentally nudged the map, this is unfortunately something that you can do without realising.

You can check the coordinates where it was submitted if you still have the submission acknowledgement email. They are after the photos.

I am realizing now that this may be exactly what happened.

This is where the location pin ended up being, basically on the cross street itself.

The red dot is absolutely where the location is and where I thought I nominated it. But like you said, I guess I nudged it.

They definitely need to edit this rejection reason to not be so broad because I was really concerned for a second lol. But either way, thanks for the flag; super unfortunate because I was waiting on this nomination for a while and seems like the only rejection reason is a pure mistake on my end. Hopefully I can re-nominate when I’m in the area.

If there was not an accompanying email from staff, then no worries. Agree about the rewording. A lot of folks are reporting that the pin is moving on them.

No accompanying e-mail, so I guess I’m in the clear. I’ll just take the L and try again next time.

Thanks for the warm welcome; long time lurker and was a very casual Wayfarer until about a month ago when I they made the web submission tool mandatory and I discovered it was infinitely better than the Pokemon Go submission system, so I’ve submitted dozens of times in the past month. It’s been fun!
