These pillars are on the sidewalk, at the end of a historic street with many 100+ year old homes. They may be common in other cities, but these are the only ones here. My nomination was rejected within 24 hours, so I appealed and that was also denied right away. Is this not an appropriate wayspot? Should I try again? Rejection says it “lacks uniqueness and historical or cultural meaning”

My original description and photos:
_Winnipeg Place Pillars_
_Brick pillars with spheres on Winnipeg Place_
_Winnipeg Place is a historic street in the Bluff Heights neighborhood of Long Beach, CA. The homes on this street were built in the 1920s, making them over 100 years old. During this era, developers commonly named streets after popular North American cities like, Winnipeg, Canada. Currently, Winnipeg Place is a residential street that goes one-way. This is the end of the street and it is marked by two brick pillars on opposite corners. One pillar has “Winnipeg” chiseled into the top stone and “Place” into the other. Long Beach has many neighborhoods that were built during the 1920s and before WWI, but these are the only pillars I have seen in the area._

It may be eligible but you are going to have a hard time convincing reviewers without some sort of third party references because such pillars are not that special elsewhere.

Just word is not enough. Can you find evidence/website link to proof your claim? Submitter tend to say anything to get their nomination approved. (I am not saying you did this) so reviewer cant just accept thing based on words only.

The homes here being 100 years old hasn’t got much to do with the pillars, which appear to be far more recently installed (maybe not, I’m not an expert, but you’d need to prove otherwise).

As it is, they fall into the ‘names of places aren’t usually valid’ pigeonhole. Whether they are plaques, signs, flowerbeds of pillars, if their only purpose is to say “Here is [NAME] Community”, then they are generally considered not to meet any criteria and are rejected. The only exception to this is when they are _particularly_ artistic and worth exploring themselves.

Here are a couple of examples where I thought they might be over that line:

The second one did eventually get through on appeal. 🤷‍♂️

Thanks for your explanation. I ask on here to help me understand how to better present my nominations. I find the pillars to be unique because of their attachment to this specific neighborhood and there are **none** in the area. They do appear to have been made after the neighborhood was established, but they do not look modern either, so aging them is difficult without any proof.

Most of what I’m finding for Winnipeg Place is for real estate, but there is a lot written about the historic districts in this city. I will try again when I can find trustworthy research.

As I frequently say to Pokemon Go players who collect nundos, rarity doesn’t necessarily equate to value. Sometimes it makes things interesting enough to scrape through, but often not.

I thought of another kind of similar sub I made that was accepted recently, but I honestly wasn’t sure it would be. Perhaps this might put the rejection of your sub in more context?

Nominations have to stand on their own, you are not nominating the neighbourhood.

You cant say “I nominate this trash bin, it’s in a town with a castle” ☹

Without evidence that the Pillars are worthy of exploring themselves I would definitely have rejected.

Keep looking…

But I can if the trash bin is unique

Thank you for the concise nundo analogy, and the example. I am looking for more context to the rejection, so as to avoid future rejections.
