I was reviewing this submission and wanted to see location so checked on streetview and this showed up which didn’t at all match the submission as it was from 2011.
I saw one of the trees matched so looked further into streetview and there were more recent ones from both 2021 and 2025 which gave an updated view and showed the waypoint would exist in this location so was wondering why the 2011 one was being selected in wayfarer?
I don’t understand this question. The default view for Wayfarer reviews is not Street View. If you are seeing an old Street View, then you have selected that one, and were correct to look around to see if there were more current ones available. I even opened a review on my phone to see if it looks different on mobile, but it did not.
On the satellite part of the review showing the location it has the option to drag Street View to your location there, but you can’t change the date that you’re looking at within Wayfarer.
So when switching the Street View within Wayfarer it had picked up an old version. You would have to separately open Google maps and change it there to find the new ones. Wouldn’t it be better to show the most recent one?
The streetview does do odd things ( very annoying at times)
When you click to go to streetview I find it defaults to what it thinks is the closest point even if I click elsewhere. I think this is what is happening here it thinks this gives the best view of the location? It would normally be the most recent one but if there is some sort of glitch/gap you can get the older one dominating.
I either then have to take a couple of goes to try and click in again to get to the street view point I want or to go straight to the main streetview which I find much more stable and easier to select.
This can also happen with main streetview on google maps, not just the one via wayfarer. it just randomly flicks to an old picture set as your move around. Not often, but it does happen.
