Hello 10 days ago I made a nomination support post about this painted transformer substation and used that post as a reference to improve my quality. Since this substation painted to resemble a historic Ottoman House it has a unique artwork so it should be eligible to be a wayspot. I wrote this in my appeal but it got rejected saying this transformer substation is not painted and the location is inaccessible to the public. As you can see from the photos I used during the nomination whole substation is painted and next to a pavement which means accessible by public.
I’ll be honest, it wasn’t immediately clear what I’m looking at here. The appeal reviewer must’ve thought that you meant the unpainted gray box that’s attached to it.
From a distance, it looks like a house. It’s only when I go into streetview and zoom all the way in that I can see the “windows” and “shutters” are actually paintings.
I would use the Web Submit method and include additional close-up photos to show this evidence.
Yea here is the description and supporting statements I used during nomination
Description: Transformer painted to look like a historical house.
Supporting statement: The murals and drawings found on the transformer boxes fall under the category of “interesting” and comply with Wayfarer rules. You can find the necessary information on the Wayfarer forums. The artwork is interesting, and the location is safe and accessible. / It is a transformer box that has been artistically painted to resemble a historic Ottoman house. It is not a Single Family Private Residential Property (SFPRP).
We did say that this needed to have very clear information. You need to look at nominations through the eyes of someone who has no idea about what they are looking at. Since the issue of the small electrical box was very obviously causing confusion it was important that this was tackled head on.
You know it is a large sub-station transformer, but the artwork is so good it is not instantly recognisable as such.
So something along the lines of …In order to make a large grey industrial transformer sub-station blend in a Trompe L’oiel has been created by painting it to look like a house.
And agin putting into your own words but the sentiments you need to convey
In the supplementary what looks like a large house is in fact a painted substation container. The submission is for this and not the small grey utiilty box by the door. It is easy to confuse as the effect is so deceptive.
They also mention access there is a narrow walkway in front but more importantly to the side there is plenty of space to stand.
So to nominate again I wrote this as a supplementary info and included close up photos of the artwork as supporting photos.
In order to make a large grey industrial transformer sub-station blend in a Trompe L’oiel has been created by painting it to look like a historic Ottoman house since this is a unique artwork it is eligible to be a wayspot. The nomination is the artwork on the substation not the small gray utility box on the front. It is not a Single Family Private Residential Property (SFPRP). The close up photos of the art of the substation can be seen in supporting photos. It is on a pedestrian walkway which means the location is safe and accessible by public.
I would try a photo of the whole building, via web submit for the extra supporting photos, with the close ups in supporting and a link to any news or documentation about it.
I would also call it a substation building, not a transformer box - as box sounds like the little grey one at the front, rather than the whole building.
