Are you sure that the other wayspot was not already a Gym?
Several L14 (Large) Cells around this 1 has more Gyms than they should. In the past it was possible to use the Location Edit to put extra Gyms in to cells they shouldn’t be.
This “should” not happen with current processes but it seems that older instances of this can be left until it is brought to staffs attention in which case they do a Re-calculation.
Your photo “issue” could have highlighted the over population and they did a re-calculation.
I honestly don’t really understand what could have happened. I just noticed today that the monument disappeared as a Gym, and the ‘Nemzeti fogyasztóvédelmi hatóság’ became a Gym instead. That is actually why I started looking into it, and that is when I saw that my photo was removed from the statue.
Another data point is that the new gym, Nemzeti Fogyasztóvédelmi Hatóság(47.496419,19.071076) has a total of 51 photo likes, which is only beaten by one pokestop (Faun kút (47.498253,19.069985) with 52), but it is possible one of those likes was gained very recently (or it’s a showcase or the extra wayspot in that cell was an issue or…)
There’s a reasonable chance the just-promoted gym had the most likes out of the 40 available pokestops. I really wish it was random.
I don’t do enough nominations to get a decent amount of data, maybe we should start recording data (off the forums) and see if we can answer this correctly.
It’s one of those old Wayspots without an approval date so somehow all of its old photo(s) were removed, which is strange since it’s an art piece. This L17 cell also has a few other very old Wayspots.
