Picnic tables are "recreational areas"?

I’ve been seeing a lot of these kinds of submissions. They feel excessive.

How do others handle this?

For reference: Picnic Areas

  • Victory Park Recreational Area (37.960305, -121.3148450)
  • Victory Park Recreational Space (37.960328, -121.315518)

  • Historic Victory Park Recreational Area # 22 (37.960010, -121.312736)

These two look to be original ones from six years ago:

  • Acorn Group Picnic Area (37.959949, -121.314727)
  • Lagoon Group Picnic Area (37.960016, -121.313269)

IMO: There is a big difference between a single picnic table and a picnic area… So I would have probably skipped past these in Review.

With so many there is also an argument for “Not Distinct”?

Distinct or duplicate against nearby ones.

But, those are all ones that made is past reviews.

I did realise that they where accepted and on the map,

Just stating that I would have not voted for them but obvious others would.

As they have been Accepted and (I assume) they do exist it could be difficult to get them removed.

Hopefully a member of staff can confirm what the official procedure should be.

Good Luck

I don’t know why someone is not simply calling them a picnic table, the recreational area seems odd.

It is a judgement call as to when it becomes a single picnic area or if there is enough distinction to warrant a single table.

There is however some things that you might want to explore or have done ?

Yellow circled one needs it’s pin correcting

Orange circles - Some creative numbering around 2 baseball fields to give 2 wayspots for each field.

Blue circle - the same photo for 2 wayspots

And there is a directional sign next to. Blue circle described as path.

Sit yourself at a picnic table and check it all out.

In my area most public parks have picnic tables (sometimes one, sometimes multiple) located under freestanding metal and/or concrete canopies and you can reserve them (like to host a party). Where it’s multiple tables under one canopy, the reservation is all of them (in other words it goes per canopy not per table). They are numbered for identification. (The most I have seen in a single park is six.)

I would think those would qualify since they are designated for events hosting - similar to say a church’s events hall? I know of at least two parks where these are approved wayspots.

It might be the same is going on in this location? (Note - the coordinates are in my state, though quite distant)

I already have all of those queued up for reporting. :->

But this “every single picnic table being named recreational area” is not something I’ve seen in just this park. It feels like I have have seen it in multiple locations across what I’ve reviewed lately.

This is just one example that finally pushed me to bringing this up, wondering if others are seeing the same else where and how they are handling it.

My state and distant as well. I was amused when I finally said “enough!” and looked into it further.

The two six year older wayspots did seem to be bookable locations. But each of these, at least from aerial views, seem to be individual tables.

After seeing how many parks Stockton, CA has, I now wonder if all of those I were seeing were actually wide spread, or just local.

And indeed, zooming out just a bit, I found this collection at a nearby park:

  • Historic Legion Park Recreational lagoon area # 1 (37.967490, -121.310425)
  • Historic Legion Park Recreational Lagoon area #2 (37.967652, -121.309750)
  • Historic Legion Park Recreational Area #4 (37.967626, -121.309042)
  • Historic Legion Park Recreational Area #5 (37.967842, -121.308243)
  • American Legion Park Recreational area 2 (37.968079, -121.307553)
  • Historic Legion Park Recreational Area #6 (37.968027, -121.306349)
  • American Legion Park Recreational Area #9 (37.966960, -121.306093)
  • Historic Legion Park Recreational area 1912 (37.966375, -121.308676)
  • American Legion Recreational area (37.966808, -121.309616)
  • Historical America Legion Park Recreational Area #8 (37.966240, -121.309704)

And I now recognize those as some I’ve reviewed recently (and voted down).

So maybe this is not as wide spread as I thought.

Picnic tables as picnic tables, despite being eligible, still get rejected for whatever reason. Thus, the submitter searches for phrases or terms that would resonate with the community more than just picnic table. ‘Recreational area’ is the result. This is just a reflection of the community.

Does every single picnic table in a park need to be approved?

No, it is a case by case basis. Though, every single picnic table has potential to be approved.
