POI in Sunset Parks, SF In/Near Elementary/Middle School?

I was reviewing some new POI, and wayfarer sent me one for what looks like the entrance of this park. Given it’s proximity to so many other pokestops, it looked like it was a slam dunk, I just needed to check for dups.

Unfortunately, while checking for duplicates, I noticed that it was actually really close to both “Sunset Elementary School” and “A.P. Giannini Middle School”…

Given the name of the park, it seems like it’s at least closely associated with the elementary school on the same block. Unfortunately, I don’t live anywhere near here though, so it’s hard for me to tell from my internet searches if this is actually true or not. Not only that, there seem to be a lot of pokestops here, that maybe shouldn’t be (based on the “k-12 school” rules).

I’m curious if anyone has some clarification here. Seems like a bunch of these should be removed… >_>

Address is: 1920 41st Ave, San Francisco, CA 94116

There does seem to actually be a park there with these facilities

Ideally they would share this link with you in any nomination near here. But as far as reporting live wayspots, you can use this to try to identify the points of interest that actually do belong to the park.

Yah… That’s what makes this one a little difficult.

There seems to be an actual park, but if I go by street-view, most of the facilities are fenced off.

It also says “Accessible parking”, but I don’t actually see a parking lot.

If I was walking anywhere near here, I’d assume that playground belonged to the surrounding schools, and I don’t really see a way to access the sports fields, except through the school-playground entrance… >_>

I think I initially rejected it, because “k-12 school”, but now I’m not so sure.

Not sure how much trust we should put in OpenStreetMap but it does show the Park area seperate to both schools (highlighted in Yellow)

I think with schools it is always better to err on the reject side fwiw. The submitter needs to prove that it is not school property.

In between the two schools, elementary on the left, middle on the right, there is a public path marked West Sunset Playground, which runs all the way down between the two schools.

To me, it is very clear that the middle school doesn’t run over to the left of this path and that the elementary school does not own the open spaces.

There is a lot of public space here and a lot of potential for wayspots. All of the ones on the map in the opening post look like eligible locations and not part of either school.

Map Viewer is a map with many potential layers. The image below is from the layer “Active Parcels (from DataSF, pulled daily)”.

It also includes the third school with those surrounding streets, St. Ignatius College Preparatory

It seems to me that single digit number of wayspots may be inappropriate.

Oh, this is one with the “Park_Evaluation_Master_Layer_VIEW” layer added in:

I am not sure what that bit in the SW corner of Sunset Elementary is, but appears to be “not park”.
