I posted my partner’s new mural in Renton, WA as a potential new Pokemon Stop, but received a response that it was a duplicate. Then a response from the appeals process found the Cedar River Salmon Mural to be AI generated! See below for their response.
The Art group that applied for the grant to complete this mural:
The artist speaking about the mural, its creation, the folks involved with its creation, showing multiple members of the community who all worked on its creation:
I can’t reply to the appeal post claiming that I submitted AI trash as a Poke Stop. How can I deal with this situation? I honestly think this is worth being celebrated as a Poke Stop.
Staff have said they want to know when they got it wrong, and they have said they read every post on the forum.
Can you post the image used for the nomination separately, so people can see for themselves if it is tripping any ai detectors?
We saw at least one post that I recall that got this ai rejection when they used ai to heavily edit a photo. Did you use ai to remove the equipment and people that we see in front of the mural for the main photo?
Also, can you share where you actually submitted this nomination, since part of the rejection is that it “does not exist at the nominated location”? If you still have the submission email, the coordinates you used will be after the photos. The location can be confirmed against the links you gave.
Just making suggestions as a fellow explorer as to what may help the situation.
Based on the screenshot they provided with the pin, the location seems to match up with what I’m seeing on street view (albeit street view is from 2018, so the mural itself doesn’t show because it didn’t exist back then).
That pin does seem to match the pin in the information provided, and the address in the link does seem to match to a bridge in satellite view that looks like the one in the photos.
Please provide the foto that used in submission. Did you do any edit to the foto to enhance the image? When reviewer saw this nomination and check that street view doesnt show it, its possible that reviewer think this is fake. If you do some review, you will notice that there are so many AI fake out there. So the onus is on submitter to provide enough evidence to show that this is real. You say a lot in description and supporting info, but its all just word. Those who submit fake AI will say anything to get their submission approved.(i am not saying you submit fake) Better evidence will be web link that you share here because its harder to imitate.
My submission was originally flagged as a duplicate, so I followed up with the following, because I thought another member of the pokemon community had submitted it as a stop:
Once a real person replied to my appeal, and told me it was AI generated and they claimed it didn’t exist, I wasn’t given the chance to reply with any of the supporting links to prove it was real. I’m not sure why they didn’t catch a difference in dates when my appeal said the mural was new and just created, and they may have compared it to an outdated google view. Oh well, people make mistakes.
The thing that bums me out is that they warned me “before submitting your next Wayspot contribution and refrain from such practices which may lead to suspension to your Wayfarer and game accounts” but there is no way for me to follow up a response or the links I provided y’all. Is there a way for me to respond? Or do I need to simply resubmit and hope that I don’t lose my account for being suspected of submitting a fake spot?
These are the photos I submitted, one of which is when they were still working on the mural and have equipment setup and painters painting. I have not edited or enhanced the photos of the mural. It’s literally just this good
Murals are a weird grey area for Wayfarer, and can be updated with a new photo. So actually saying that this is simply a new mural painted over an existing mural is the correct procedure for an updated mural. Now you either need to get thumbs on the new photo, or ask help chat to remove the outdated photos, or both. Then send through edits for the title and description. I personally think it would make more sense to remove the Wayspot for the mural that is no longer there, then submit a new nomination, the way you tried to do it.
However, when I drop this full image into an AI checker, it is coming up as AI generated for me, too.
I am not an expert on this, so will just follow the topic from here on out.
I do want to add that this image would look very odd on a Wayspot. Ideally you would want to submit an image taken at an angle more like the supporting photo. There is a good topic here on photo ratios I will find and link.
Ok if i look into map.your nomination is duplicate of the older mural in this location. You need to thumb up until your like is more than the old mural foto.its is in the same cell with Renton Skate Park so it wont appear as pokestop. It might appear as powerspot though.
I didn’t use AI to improve the image at all, being part of the artist community I’m very against conflating AI with art or using AI to “improve” the original artwork.
Nor was AI used in the original artwork by the muralist, nor the native artist who created the black and white drawing of the fish on the left.
Some images of the mural being painted at different stages, and the unveiling with the artist, the community of painters involved, and even our mayor at the event.
Hey that map is pretty cool! Thanks for your response and posting an image of what you’re seeing.
“You need to thumb up until your like is more than the old mural foto.”
I’m not quite sure I understand what you mean. I’ve never submitted a spot to be a pokestop before, so this is all new to me. I didn’t even realize there was a pokestop for the old mural that used to be there. Half of the old mural is still on the wall opposite the new salmon mural.
It will look like this. If you didnt receive them , then there is nothing to worry. It seems you only got nomination rejection. Anyway dont resubmit it again because it will only got rejected as duplicate
Well there is no like yet in older foto. So one like is all you need. I give it a like anyway. This wayspot wont appear as pokestop but it might appear in powerspot rotation
Basically i use wayfarer map with plugin. But we are not allowed to share the link here. If you google wayfarer tool, you can find it along with wayfarer discussion discord.
