it is not up to me. i am just trying to help you understand.
This bank of mail boxes would just be infrastructure, but what is that building? If it is a community clubhouse or something like that intended for gathering, you could submit that.
If this is the building and there isn’t already anything not showing on this map, then it would be in a position to be eligible to go live as a pokestop or gym. But again, there is no street view to tell me what this building is.
Right next to it is a grassy lawn. Could you get the community there to set up a little free library in this common area? That would be an eligible point of interest.
Hello @Frankinstin7267
We all understand your frustration. Many of us have spent time trying to find things in local areas to improve the game board. Its not easy and it is full of ups and downs.
We like to help people in this nomination area as we have had that experience and want to help others.
So please bear this in mind when posting as the people here are fellow wayfinders, just like you, and do not create the rules that we all must operate within.
We are approaching this as a problem that we are trying to help you solve.
Yes that the community and yeah theres just the one stop. I just want to try to find one more so the kids in the community can do more/better walking routs and stuff. They all just sit at the park with luers up now. The building is the office, but technically its listed as the recreation center of the community. So i could try that. Also the field is set up for a cook out/party area. Its left open for big community cook out and parties wjen we bring in inflatable water slides and bounce houses and stuff. I could look into a community library though as well. I could probably build something.
I understand that and agree. I also very much appreciate help and suggestions. Im just not very concerned with a holy sanctity of a kids cartoon phone game. Im really just interested in the children in the park being able to play while maintaining safety. Its been creating issues when small children are walking across busy roads. I actually only playd the game at launch for a couple weeks. I recently re installed it and ground my levels just to attempt to get them some more stops in the area because it was getting so dangerous with them leaving and standing outsind of the liquor store down the road. I told the other parrents i would see what i could do.
If you get a second wayspot accepted in an empty smaller cell, one of them will become a gym fyi.
Here is a great article explaining about that S2 cell stuff:
https://pokemongohub.net/post/article/comprehensive-guide-s2-cells-pokemon-go/
The smaller grids I have outlined in that orange color are the L17 size and the bigger one I have outlined in green is the L14 size.
You can use this information for knowing where to set up the Little Free Library. I would hate for you to go to the effort, then put it somewhere that won’t help you.
(Just to be clear, I always state that people should never pin a nomination in a cell if it doesn’t actually exist there. Niantic considers that abuse. I am so glad they are allowing us to explain about the cells here, and I don’t want to jeopardize them continuing to do so.)
They are all in the game. Its really not a safe walk from our community however.
Sorry, its a little hard for me to see. Would next to the large building on the south side of cherry street, between royal and birch, be a good location. I feel like that would be a good place to install one? Or is that a different cell?
I do appreciate what your goal is for making a safe playable area (for the kids). And folks here are fantastic and finding things that meet eligibility in your neighborhood ![]()
But I would like to temper your expectations. As said above this specific Pokemon game is about walking around and exploring. There are plenty of others that may be more appropriate for kids to play at home if they are too young to be wandering on their own / unsupervised.I know you are trying to help the families, but I don’t think it’s a reasonable expectation for you (or anyone) to populate an area to be suitable for kids in the way you are saying.
is that a better view on the L17 cells? if you are going to try the rec center, as a nomination, you will want to set up the lfl in the larger field. right next to the building would be in the same L17 as the building.
I actually love that setting up a little free library would help the kids in two ways <3
Thats still in town. Thats a gym. Town is a great place with lots of stops and gyms. However, town is about a mile away taking roads. Cleavland is the main road west of your photo, There is no way to cut through directly from our community and the roads that need to be walked have no sidwalks and very little sholder. Its just not very safe.
Ok. So i will try to set up the rec center and i will install a library box on the corner there on the corner of royal and cherry. Correct? Sorry, its hard to see because im red/green color blind. Not because of your photo. Lol
oh a friend is color blind, i should have thought of that. the L17 grid lines are skinnier and the L14 lines are thicker. all you need to see right now is the outline of the smaller rectangles.
Ok. Thanks ill try that. A public library box would probably be a nice thing for them anyway, so ill give that a shot. I dont actually live there (my best friend does with his kids) so ill get with him and the management to see what we can do. Thanks for all your help.
Here are some general tips for submissions. I like to take my photos first and look at them in my gallery before I even begin the nomination. That way I can crop or straighten them, and avoid things I might not notice in the submission thumbnail, like reflections, license plates, my thumb, etc. Then when I begin the nomination, I choose the “existing photo” option.
The supporting photo should include the point of interest, just like in the one you shared. Especially for the new LFL, be sure to include something in the photo with the LFL that reviewers can identify on satellite view. If there is a street sign there, that would be great to capture in the supporting photo.
Then for text, I usually submit the title pretty much how I want it to be in game so I can find it in my emails later if needed. For the description and supporting section, I write something that is short and accurate, but not necessarily what i want the final nomination to say.
After I submit, I go to my contributions page https://wayfarer.nianticlabs.com/new/nominations and edit it to exactly what I want to say. I like to do this step on my computer. It doesn’t have to be fancy, but I do like to make sure that my spelling, capitalization, and grammar look correct. IMO, this helps to get reviewers leaning towards “Of course this should be a Pokestop!”
For the supporting, I usually just state what criteria (exercise, exploration, or being social) I feel this meets, then point out anything that I think reviewers may need to know in order to be comfortable with accepting the nomination. If there is a link you can include about the building being a rec building, you can use a link here.
Best of luck!
Well. I mean, i dont know if you have kids or not but generally, telling them to just play something else doesn’t work. Lol. Plus, there not my kids, so i cant tell them to not walk down the road and stand in the liquor store parking lot. Im just trying to help my freind and the others area. Im not even really into this game. Lol
I think what we are trying to get at is that needing spots for the kids to play is not Wayfarer criteria. It is great that you want to do this for them! But don’t put that as the reason in the supporting section in answer to the prompt asking why this would be a good pokestop.
If someone is only looking for places it is safe for the kids to walk to and play, that is not the same thing as being a great place to exercise, explore, or be social. So it helps to get in the mindset of what meets criteria instead.
Ill just find something that meets the criteria. If not ill make something. Its not really that big of a deal. Its just irritating when i see some of the things that do get through and accepted and these kids cant have a single one. Ill get them something in the subdivision so that its safe. They are going to continue to play the game but they have to get out of the roads. A 12 year old almost got taken out by a drunk driver last month. Yeah, some parents need to be better about supervision but once again, i cant make them. So thats my mindset when it comes to this. Its a problem and its going to be fixed.
