Repeated Reports of a Gym With No Safe Pedestrian Access

Hi everyone,

I’m hoping someone can help me with an existing Pokémon GO Gym that appears to have no safe pedestrian access.

The Gym’s Wayspot pin is located in the roadway itself. Vehicles use this road continuously, and there is no safe pedestrian area at the pinned location where players can stand and interact with the Wayspot. Reaching the exact location would require a player to enter or stand in the road.

I have reported this issue through Pokémon GO multiple times and have submitted photographs showing the location and surrounding traffic conditions, but the Gym remains unchanged.

Location - 28.589776, 77.060540
Name of the gym - Community Ambassador Campsite - Impactful

Could an Ambassador or moderator please advise me on how this safety issue can be escalated for another review?

Thank you.

This might not be within the scope of things that the wayfarer team can help with, as Community Ambassador Pokéstops and Gyms are not wayspots in the wayfarer database, so they’re technically not a wayfarer issue (though if they are able to help, they likely will do so after reading this post).

You might need the Community Ambassador for your local Pokémon Go group to reach out to their contact at Scopely Explore and let them know that one of the Gyms could do with moving as it’s currently in the middle of a road.

Hey!

Understood. Will try to do that. Appreciate the help.

Hey @anuj96 ,

No, it’s pinned on the sidewalk and as a result, is safely accessible.

Our games are meant to augment reality, not replace it. We do encourage our users to be safe and alert at all times, abide by local laws, and respect the locations they visit and people they meet during their exploration. We advise our players to review and follow the Trainer Guidelines at all times while playing Pokémon GO to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone!

Thanks,

No - it is not a sidewalk. It is a service lane, and it is almost as busy as the main road running directly beside it.

I live in this area. I use these roads regularly, and I have personally attended raids at this Gym with friends on multiple occasions. Every time we have done so, we have felt exceptionally unsafe standing there because of the continuous vehicle traffic through that service lane. That firsthand experience is precisely why I have repeatedly reported this location as unsafe.

So I find it concerning that the response begins with a definitive “No, it’s pinned on the sidewalk and as a result, is safely accessible,” when the area being referred to is not actually a sidewalk at all.

This is Delhi, India; the capital of the world’s most populous country, and traffic conditions here cannot reasonably be assessed simply by looking at a map or satellite imagery and assuming that a strip beside a main road is a pedestrian sidewalk. If the location is viewed on the ground, it is clearly a functioning service lane used by vehicles, and it carries very significant traffic.

I have actually stood at this location and played raids there. I am not raising a hypothetical concern based on what the map looks like. I am reporting my real-world experience of the location as someone who lives there and has repeatedly used this Gym.

After experiencing the same safety issue across several raids, I reported it multiple times with supporting evidence. When those reports did not resolve the issue, I ultimately had to bring it to the Wayfarer forum.

I fully understand that Pokémon GO is intended to augment reality and that players are responsible for remaining alert and following local laws. But that does not change the underlying issue I am reporting: the location being described here as a “sidewalk” is a busy service lane, and in actual real-world use, standing there to interact with this Gym is not something I consider safely accessible.

I would therefore appreciate this being reviewed based on the actual ground conditions at the location rather than on the assumption that the area beside the road is a sidewalk.

Agree, this doesn’t look safe, if it is, we can also consider the middle of roundabouts safe if there is some room to stand.

Edit: it is possible to use a pedestrian crosswalk (about 100 meters to the south)

Bro, you won’t believe this, literally about 100 metres west of this location, there is actually another Gym placed right in the middle of an extremely busy four-way intersection. So yes, the exact roundabout-type example you just gave is basically happening right there. If you move the map slightly west, you should be able to see it.

What makes this even more frustrating is that there are actually three Gyms extremely close together in that same area, some less than 10 metres apart. For some reason, the particular Gym I reported here no longer seems to appear on the Wayfarer map for me, although it is still very much present in Pokémon GO.

And then you have people like me trying to submit legitimate locations, getting nominations rejected regularly for completely understandable eligibility reasons, while at the same time seeing Gyms sitting in the middle of busy intersections or clustered practically on top of each other.

I understand how the cell system works, but seeing things like this while trying to contribute legitimate Wayspots is honestly pretty disheartening.

Well in both cases you could argue that it is possible to reach them via a pedestrian crosswalk. So even though I would not consider this safe, it is possible to reach it (via a detour) in a safe way.

It definitely looks like it’s the side walk next to the service road. People are expected to walk on it as just up the road there is a Postbox on this “Side walk”.
