I know the allocation of Gyms and Stops are for the Pogo team, so am referencing this indirectly to help with the dilemma.
There is a gym near me that has been taken over by a new company. I have the new owner listed in my drafts but don’t want to lose that specific gym as many people in the community are still trying to get it gold. I suspect I need to bite the bullet and request the removal and submit its replacement, but am wondering if there was a way to request that the details be replaced in order to preserve the gym?
I’ll understand if my request will result in me getting a slap around the face with a wet phish.
Which is the Wayspot for? Is it for the building as an historic building, or is it for the current business there?
It was Harrow Salvation Army, but is now Shree Swaminarayan Mandir Loyadham. The co-ords is 51.569340,-0.346094. Same building, different owners.
That does appear to be a Wayspot based on the occupant, not the building. Changing the Wayspot would be repurposing, so removal and resubmit is the way I would go.
We have had Aaron tell us that the new owner could request changes to the Wayspot if you want to try talking to them. I will edit in that link when I find it.
I was afraid that would be the case. I don’t know the owners, so am reluctant to ask them to request the change. I just have to decide whether to bite the bullet to get the old gym removed and the new wayspot submitted.
The first stage can simply be submitting the new PoI. You can do that independently of any removal request, and getting that accepted first also means that there’s something ready to replace the existing one immediately
My only concern is my nomination being rejected as duplicate, as it’s the same building… especially if ML gets it before human reviewers.
Idk how reviewers will react to a nomination submitted at the same place as an existing wayspot. I would have trouble accepting a submission for the same building. Do people have success this way?
I tend to do this every time, yes. I view adding the new information to be separate from removing the old, and I prefer to do it this way around ie add new first, as it protects me somewhat from accusations from people who complain about losing stops/gyms. If the replacement is there already and they simply swap, I rarely find people complain. 
I would hope that reviewers would accept the new one, and if they wanted to take action, the correct action would be reporting the old one for me I guess!
Just want to add, I believe that even if you do it in the order @frealafgb states there is no guarantee that the new wayspot will be the one that becomes the Gym when the other is removed.

We wouldn’t lose a gym as such. If the existing wayspot is removed, another Wayspot will become a Gym. My preference is to keep the Gym at the same location. I get why it won’t or can’t happen.
I suppose the other thing you can try is to supply all the information about the new use of the building to help chat and see if they update or remove it - then its their choice. They may decide to remove, but it’s at least possible that they update it for you?
The last time I tried to do something similar, the help chat removed the wayspot instead of updating it. I’ll be in that general area tomorrow, so I will submit a removal and will submit my draft, which is pretty much ready to submit.
