Reviewing local potential pokestops?

I am pretty new on here, so I may just have missed something, but is there a way to review local pokestop submissions? I have set my location and tried reviewing places, but they are all in other states or countries, which other than Googling it and hoping that the information has been updated online I’m no use for. I know 10 of the local pokestops are correct, but when I try to get in to add my approval I have no idea how to do that. If other people who don’t know the town have to get to it eventually how will they honestly be able to approve a place or not? I know one place I recently had to fix in town wasn’t named the right thing and had been shut down for almost 2 years.

Hello and Welcome.

You should have set your “Home Location” and a “Bonus Location”.

Wayfarer automatically adds a “Play Location”.

These are used to determine where you will receive reviews from. The distance can be quite large. I am located in England and will receive from most of the country. Depending on your location you could get reviews from neighbouring countries. As England is an island I don’t as its all water :frowning:

The Bonus Location should be set to somewhere that you feel confident in reviewing. Previous home, regular holiday destination or just somewhere you know has a similar culture to yours. This can be changed every 3 months.

In regards to the “Play Area”, in over 14,000 reviews I have received just a few in the immediate area. My assumption this was to reduce the chance of voting rings “Bob, I have nominated crap at Niantic Street, when you see it Accept it” :frowning: but it could just be coincidence.

The Home and Bonus can be seen in Settings. Home should not be able to be changed and as stated the Bonus can be changed every 3 months. I have seen staff reset these as a one off if you made a mistake.

Good Luck

Added: Nominations can be upgraded, these are then sent to a wider area so you could receive nominations from further afield…

I have both set to my current location, I haven’t been “home” in 20+ years and nothing is the same anymore. I wouldn’t trust to vote on anything from there. I also am a non-driver (epilepsy) and we do not have a bus system that is reliable so my knowledge is pretty much my town. I guess if they aren’t going to give me places in my town I just won’t be able to participate.

Lots of reviews can easily be confirmed just using the information supplied…

A play park viewable using the map is an easy Accept, so are Churches, Sports field etc.

If you can’t confirm then using the Skip function is the correct option.

Nobody is expecting reviewers to drive to the location to confirm and it would have timed out by the time you got there anyway.

The main cultural differences that can restrict reviews are local rules such as “Is the side walk part of the House Property” For me it isn’t but some countries it is.
