This is the second review I have had where “Sempiternal Statues” has been a very close existing wayspot. Both have been extremely dodgy and I have a few issues with “Sempiternal Statues” (image at the bottom)
Title: Scarif memorial plaque
Description: A plaque in memory of all the people who lost their lives in the Battle of Scarid
Supporting: A metal sign placed in rememberance for the people who lost their lives in the battle of scarif. The names of everyone lost is featured on the sign.
The decision to reject as fake is based on the lack of streetview plus the results a google search on the battle I had never heard of. Very much themed with the existing wayspot (image below), which could potentially exist but doesn’t feel like an eligible wayspot. Similarly, this plaque could potentially exist, but is being highly misrepresented, although I can see a little tongue-in-cheek aspect.
It’s a Star Wars thing; the main cause appears to me that someone has nominated multiple items presumably in Sempiternal Ink Tattoo House (hence Sempiternal Statues and the “tattoo” on the window) that are just different parts of a collection of Star Wars memorabillia. There’s quite a few different ones in this location so keep an eye.
I don’t like calling something fake simply because you aren’t aware of the source. I have no problem with funny wayspots as long as they are permanent. Please remember that not everything can be seen on street view.
The plaque seems to be located on the outside of the shop. We have seen before that murals on the outer walls of adult shops can be eligible. So I don’t see why this would be any different.
Artwork that they specialize in? I’d have to take that case by case. If it was just something hanging on the wall that is informational like, “I’ll take #4 which is ‘Live Laugh Love’ in Kanji? Probably a No on that. But if it’s a mural on the outside that shows off their unique style and is a big scene of Hearts and Rainbows and jumping dolphins and mermaids singing to a lighthouse? I’d more than likely accept that.
Artwork that includes the shop’s name? That is way too vague for me to make a call on.
That would make the existing wayspot ineligible, since it’s a couple of large Star Wars toys inside the shop. That goes along with the photo being substandard.
When a submission has other issues, and then doesn’t exist on streetview and the submitter has made no attempt to assist with that (Photos of the plaque on the tattoo shop website? Photos in the google picture reel? News articles?), the lack of proof of existence becomes a problem.
A plaque could be stuck up, have pictures taken, then removed.
Well streetview is never a mandatory, but it greatly increase the chance of acceptance. We can tell if its been there for long time and not some AI stuff or sticker.
I’m not saying that you are obligated to accept it. But there is a response of “I don’t know” exactly for the reasons you just outlined. People are becoming far too comfortable judging everything as fake when in reality they simply don’t know.
