Earlier this year all spawns ceased to exist on our community college campus in Albemarle, NC. With a large group of faculty and staff on campus that love PoGo we were all naturally very confused and saddened by this. What is most odd is that all stops (5 total), all dynamax locations (3) and our gym remain. However, absolutely no spawns occur. Zero. Even with a lure you’re doing good to get 1-2 spawns.
We all reached out to support in every avenue imaginable but no one would help, instead treating this like it was a user error or call for an app update or something isolated. We provided screenshots, GPS location and multiple verified accounts but no one was every willing to help.
Any thoughts on how to get this rectified? Thanks!
This sounds like someone has incorrectly coded this as a school in Open Street Maps. I don’t understand Open Street Maps. I hope the team can help.
Edit: the person I reached out to said
“It’s tagged as amenity=university, so that shouldn’t block spawns. It’s been that way for over two years, idk when the most recent data was sourced though”
You need to reach out to your school administration to see if they requested this. There have been a few cases of universities requesting all gaming elements be removed so students are not distracted and to keep others from wandering onto their property. I suspect the gyms, stops, and power spots still being there is a mistake that might be changed.
Or it could be the Open Street Maps issue. Check into that.
Thanks for the info. How do I reach out to Open Street Maps? Sorry, new here!
Search for Open Street Maps. This is an online map which can be updated if not correct. There is a possibility that somehow the area was coded differently. The Pokémon Go map does not update very often and it’s not on a regular basis Pokémon Go does adjust spawn points occasionally as well but I’m not sure the 2 are related.
