At the weekend I submitted 2 trail markers which were within maybe 250m of each other, at different roundabouts either side of a large railway bridge.

I made a small typo in 1 title, missing the U in “route”. But my description was better, the picture also better, since the sign hadn’t had stickers put on it. One accepted and one rejected.

I just wanted to say I think that rejecting for 1 single letter missing in a title is overly picky.

I had a vaguely-related issue when ML was accepting submissions a while back. Some cycle route signs, of an identical stature to these, were accepted by ML then removed by Niantic, because Niantic were removing lots of things that ML had accepted. Since then, someone else submitted the same signs successfully.

Local route signs like this are not completely acceptable to everyone, so that one insignificant error might be enough to push a couple of reviewers across to reject it. Both submissions _might_ have had a decent number of rejections and it _might_ only have been a few that made the difference.

I can understand both possible perspectives here. One small typo is not really a reason to reject instantly and can be fixed easily with a title change, but I also understand the reviewers part especially when the typo is in the title of the submission since that it mostly what it is looked at ingame.

A very unfortunate situation in my opinion, which can’t be undone.

I also had a typo in my submission but that one got accepted, somehow so it is possible for reviewers to still accept

Every single one I’ve had rejected and subsequently appealed was overturned on appeal, so I think that pattern speaks for itself about if Niantic thinks they’re acceptable. That’s specifically regarding Reading Cycle Routes.

I am not concerned about eligibility. I am mostly just baffled by the inaccurate title rejection for 1 single letter.

I have too! Again it was 1 letter incorrect, and was accepted and edited so its fine now 😆

If you are OK with appealing lots of things that are eligible and Niantic will approve on appeal, then don’t worry about how reviewers perceive eligibility.

However, since appeals are limited, I’d try to minimise reliance on them and take special care with things that are at risk of being rejected because sufficient numbers of reviewers don’t know are eligible.

Although it is only one typo, we are still surprised that it was accepted. And at the same time you wish you had looked better because it just feels so bad when you see that one typo, especialyy when the submission is already in voting 😅

I agree with the 1 letter spelling error being a bit harsh for a rejection. I would not have rejected. With the Map add ons it would be possible to keep a note of the location and use Help Chat to correct it.

I also agree that these are not 100% accepts, Just me opinion but I try to differentiate a “Bike Trail” and a Cycle Path and “Reading Cycle Routes” seems to be a collection of Cycle Paths. As I don’t see these as “Black or White” I would normally use my option to Skip.

I’m obviously making these numbers up, but imagine that every submission is reviewed 100 times and it takes 40 rejections to mean the submission is rejected. The one with the typo gets 5 extra rejections because of the typo, meaning it gets 44 rejections and the other one got 39.

All it can take to change the result of any submission is a handful of extra rejections because of an avoidable error.

Small typos have been discussed before on the forum and its been confirmed that nominations with small text mistakes that do not detract from understanding the PoI or make it otherwise ineligible should be accepted and then edited.

This thread for example.

> You do not have to reject for spelling errors. It is up to you to decide whether the error is so bad that a regular person would not understand the text. “I don’t know” is an option. Can I edit a misspelling in the title or description? At this time, reviewers cannot edit submissions beyond suggesting a new real-world location. If the title or description does not violate acceptance criteria, vote accordingly. Once the Wayspot is live, other Wayfinders will have an opportunity to submit an ed…

Totally agree but if you get a 50 / 50 to review then a great photo, accurate info could push it to accept but errors, lower quality image could push it to Reject.

1 single typo should not cause a Reject on it’s own but added to other factors it could swing it either way.

So you’re saying 1 single typo makes something unacceptable due to being “low quality"? That is not what we are supposed to do when reviewing.

Now I see why it was rejected if you guys are in my review area 😅🤦‍♀️

No. One single error in a submission can cause a handful of reviewers to switch to Reject, when otherwise they would have Accepted. This can be sufficient to cause a rejection.

Where in the criteria does it say to reject eligible things for small issues? It doesn’t. We aren’t constructing a complicated score in our heads knocking off points for things that aren’t ideal!

That is not what I said, I recommend reading my post again…

- If a Review is already 50/50 then a “Low quality or inaccurate Title” could tip it.
- If it’s otherwise an easy Accept then a single typo should not change it.
- If it’s otherwise an easy Reject then a “Perfect Title” should not change it.

It (almost certainly) has to be the case that a certain number of percentage of rejections by reviewers will cause a wayspot to be rejected. All we get is “Accepted” or “Rejected” and never know how close something was.

If reviewers reject because of a small issue, you can appeal. Alternatively, correct the issue and resubmit. Getting annoyed because that small issue shouldn’t have caused a problem is not going to help you get it accepted 🙂

I agree. I suppose there are situations where a single letter could create an unacceptable word or message, but this is not one of those situations.

I am glad you are trying to get the message out that this is not a reason to reject a nomination, but I am afraid that your message is being lost in discussion of the content. The previous discussion on typos you linked confirms this stance is shared by Niantic staff.

I know you are a seasoned wayfarer who does not need educating on how the process works, but others who read this topic might not know that.

but we can still have different opinions.

Like I stated, I agree that 1 error should not affect a good nomination but could tip a 50/50.

Have you have missed the point that people rejected for the typo? That is an incorrect review.
