Time to remove all the litter created by promotions

Isn’t it about time we cleaned up the maps from all the promotional POIs created during sponsorships 5+ years ago? By this I am referring to the bus stops and clothing donation drop boxes. None of these fit the “spirit” of a meaningful portal. Nobody is using Ingress to locate bus stops or clothing donation locations.

What part of the world are you seeing these?

I’m wondering the same I’ve never seen a clothing donation spot on my map. Not an Ingress. However I do see the bus stops, but our bus stops are typically pretty artistic but that might be just because our town is very artistic town. Santa Fe is world renowned for its art so it’s kind of everywhere. That does bring up the question of where are you located?

These are all #MissionsForGood portals? In that case, yep, I agree - they definitely need re-examination at the very least…and even if valid, need the hashtag removed.

Ha! Look at that. I’m so used to people yelling about the junk that PGO players add to the map that it didn’t occur to me to think of Ingress junk!

That reminds me, I have a local charity shop with that as the description. I kept meaning to update it to a better description

I do believe that this shop has value as a waypoint because people volunteer there and often these are older people who want to be more social, or people with learning difficulties seeking some work experience. The store is a supportive atmosphere for these people.

I haven’t submitted any charity shops myself but I definitely dont think they meet any removal critieria and thry can be social hubs in some areas

Isn’t this the sort of thing that Machine Learning needs to be educated about?

If we submit edits to remove the hashtag, Emily may see the change as inferior.

If the machine knows about this issue, it could be taught to remove the hashtags all by itself, and wouldn’t even need for us to flag them.

If there is a deeper issue, with some spots existing that run counter to Wayfarer standards, perhaps the machine could identify some to return to voting?

Right? Usually it’s people wondering why their Starbucks submission was rejected!

I will say that it’s interesting that when I search for sponsored or promotional Wayspots, I don’t get many Ingress specific results, mainly use PoGo. I always knew they were out there, but they don’t seem to be talked about as much.

In the U.S. In my case, it is FL specifically.
Here are two examples, more are available.

Interesting topic.
What exactly is the Ingress promotion for which the portal is being created?
We believe that by unraveling that, we can determine if this wayspot is eligible.

The #MissonsForGood started in December 2014, so it almost 10 years old, and the link that Ingress provides is a dead one, I found. There is a Facebook post about it that has more info, but that’s about all I was able to find. I put in the screenshot of the post and the link, for those who may not be on Facebook.
