Warning after rejected Wayspot nomination – why?

Hi everyone,

I received a warning from Niantic regarding one of my rejected Wayspot nominations, and I’m trying to understand what exactly caused it.

The nomination was called “Roter Kasten” (“Red Box”). It is a utility box that has been painted/sprayed red and black. There is also a small, stylized Mainz 05 football club logo*on it.

My description was:

“Somewhere between power supply and street art, this box decided that boring grey simply wasn’t an option. A small but rather eye-catching splash of colour on the way to the football stadium.”

The nomination itself was rejected for two reasons:

-The nomination is not unique or historically/culturally significant.

  • The text or photo contains abusive, mocking, or harassing content directed at a specific person or group.

I completely understand the first rejection reason. An ordinary utility box may simply not meet the Wayfarer criteria, and I have no issue with the nomination being rejected.

However, I subsequently received a separate warning from Niantic. The email says that the contribution was reported, investigated by the team and found to violate Niantic policies. The only information about the violation is:

Policy Violation: Generic very low severity offense

The email does not specify what the actual policy violation was, so I don’t know whether the warning is related to the second rejection reason or to something else entirely.

I can’t identify anything in the nomination that I knowingly submitted in violation of the rules. The small black symbol on the box is a stylized Mainz 05 football club logo.

Does anyone know what “Generic very low severity offense” usually refers to, or can anyone see something in this nomination that could explain the warning?

I’d mainly like to understand what caused it so that I can avoid the same issue with future nominations.

& Should I stop submitting new Wayspot nominations for now to avoid risking an account suspension? :frowning:

The basic distinction for street art regarding eligibility is whether it is authorised (murals) or not (graffiti). Sometimes, an area can be established as having high quality graffiti that often gets replaced, but never whitewashed, but this is fairly rare.
