Additional Information (if any)
This is following my other thread to appeal the restoration of another gym. It was indicated I should put in appeals for the others, so I’m going to work my way backwards down the removal list. This will be my first action as the Co-CA for my area. This one is a bit older than the last one, I therefore apologise for this one being less timely.
The Wayspot had existed in game for quite a long time prior to it’s removal. It was a point of activity within the local community. It was previously a gym, and as such it was often the place where many would go after an organised community meet up. It is also still very much open and active, it’s signage is new and it exists on Google maps and Facebook. Additionally, I have included some photos taken today as evidence of it being open. It has been open continuously for a very long time (longer than I’ve been alive, I’m pretty sure), there was no way to legitimately believe this was closed, and a pub is a valid Waypoint, per the guidelines.
Unfortunately we have a toxic group here that are actively removing pokestops and gyms, even though they are valid Wayspots and are actively used. This is acting against the good of the community. At this point, I’m requesting that the gym be restored and any accounts associated with the false removal (and their alts) all need to be banned, or these false removals will keep taking place.
Thank you for taking the time to review this matter, and for all the help and support last time. You all rock! If you can think of any additional info that would be helpful, please do let me know.
The pub is ancient, based on my original research, it was first opened in around 1898 - the things we learn to submit these, right? There may have been some renovations around 2021, going from memory, but nothing more recent than that. Even then, it wasn’t actually closed as far as I recall. Like I said - I can’t ever remembering the place being closed.
@salixsorbus is correct, the Wayspot was removed in the time frame of June-July this year, and there definitely weren’t works ongoing during that time frame, nor are there now (as is evident by the photos included).
There would there have been a way to reasonably believe that it was closed for any reason. It’s a pretty busy pub.
That’s certainly possible. I am aware of that situation. If there was a blanketed removal (or even an over-broad targeted removal), it may have been caught up in that. I don’t know how the system works behind the scenes, though it sounds plausible to me?
Regardless, this is definitely a legitimate Wayspot and I’m hopeful it can still be restored regardless. I don’t, offhand, recall whether it was submitted around the same time as those - I believe it’s older than any of the trail markers, though I wouldn’t put money on that.
I’m just following this up in the hope that there’s still a chance that you can poke or prod something to restore it to it’s original in-game state too.
It, ultimately, wasn’t ever meant to have been removed, and it seems unfair to deprive the community of the former gym as a result of the incorrect removal here.
Obviously, I know it might be outside your remit, but I’ll keep rattling whatever cages I can, to ensure the community gets the best results possible.
Thanks for taking the time to review and restore this regardless.
Although the map data is nearly 4 days old I think it is good enough to see what is happening here. When the Queens Hotel was removed the data in the cell recalculated.
The font now became a pokestop in lieu of the Queens Hotel in that level 17 cell.
The level 14 cell recalculated to replace the gym - don’t know which of the two gyms ( red outer circle) is the new gym but the level 14 cell is balanced by having those 2 gyms. The Queens Hotel has the potential to be power spot.
So your request is for the font to be not in game
And for one of the other 2 gyms to be down graded to a stop
And the Queens Hotel to be a gym
The usual answer when a place is restored is that there can’t be a return to the former status. I am unsure what is possible here as we don’t know the full details.
There has been a change and that can feel unpleasant, but have the wider community adjusted to the new gym?
I am familiar with how the cells work, I was part of the small team that initially seeded our area with stops and gyms. That was back in the old Ingress days, before all this new fangled stuff. I suddenly feel old.
I am aware of instances where restorations outright ignore the cell rules when they are restored, obsessively (I assume) because the removal was incorrect to begin with, so the rules mandate the restoration of that Wayspot’s “status quo”, regardless of the rules governing the Wayspots within the cells. For example:
I have instances where there are two Wayspots in the same S17 cell, both of which are visible and accessible in-game - one of which was incorrectly removed and later restored.
I have instances where there have ended up being more than 3 gyms in a specific S14 cell, wherein a Wayspot was removed and returned to it’s original state - creating one more gym than was conventionally permitted.
While it’s true that these may be weird edge-case exceptions rather than the rule… and if so, I will accept that, but I would like to hear an official stance on why this seems to apply somewhere and then not elsewhere. To be clear, I’m not accusing anyone of being flexible with the rules - I’m a programmer myself and know that quirky edge cases can and do crop up in systems like this.
Several of those cases you are citing have ensured that the programming was improved and policy and programming now align so that cell movements across boundaries result in the moved stop becoming game ineligible.
Those that remain may be on borrowed time.
We don’t know exactly the circumstances around Queens Hotel being removed and restored so it is best not to make assumptions.
Just so that the Team are clear, can you confirm the scenario that you are hoping for as I laid out
To be honest, at that point, if it is just trading one for another - I don’t think it’s worth the effort of the team to spend time manually going in an changing this or that for no net effect.
I don’t want to create extra work for them. They’ve restored it, that was my original request. I’ll feed back that it’s simply not going to become a gym again, even though it now technically exists again.
Long after the days when some where using location edits to get multiple wayspots active in the same cell I did a Location Edit that moved a pokestop in to an occupied cell. It took 12 months for this to be re-calculated.
I know of another location with 2 per cell that has been that way even longer and hasn’t yet been re-calculated.
I remember 1 being mentioned on here and a staff comment was “working as expected” so there maybe cases where multiples can happen but nobody has worked out why yet…
