Location (lat/lon): -35.290912,149.143492
City: Canberra
Country: Australia
Additional Information: The Ram Paddock is an informational and historical sign that is part of the Canberra Tracks series, it was a very old wayspot, maybe 10+ years old. The POI in game disappeared a couple of days ago, the physical real world POI still exists and pedestrian access has not changed. Please see geotagged photos below taken today, the photos match Google street view.
I am curious if this had been a gym previously.
Campfire shows that it was/is a gym
The information pillar was red, with the white one being a replacement of the same information in exactly the same place on exactly the same footing.
I wonder if Scopely Explore were convinced that it needed to be removed and resubmitted?
I see there are currently 3 gyms in the L14. We have been seeing a lot of appeals here on the forum where it appears that a gym has been maliciously reported for removal. Staff usually says that they cannot return game status even if they reinstate, but I hope they can find a way to return this as a gym if they agree that the information they received to remove it was abuse to force a different gym to go live elsewhere.
It was indeed a gym, and yes the pillar used to be red, most of those got refurbished recently, this is why I made sure to take photos up close to show that the POI is still named the same as the previous structure and is in the same spot. From what I remember of the old Niantic guidelines, if a cafe got replaced with another cafe it should be removed + resubmit, but if a POI was simply updated and it’s the same thing, that’s what new photos are for.
I actually don’t mind if it gets restored as a pokestop rather than a gym, it’s the historical photos attached to the POI that I’m interested in preserving - to me it’s always important to be able to look at the photos and see how the POI and its surroundings looked 3, 5, 10 years ago etc., it’s kind of like preserving history. ![]()
Edit: Just walked past it and looks like it was restored, into a pokestop. If someone got it removed it I suspect it might have been because spoofers have been hogging that gym, those spoofers are pretty vicious and wouldn’t let anyone else stay on their gyms for more than a couple of hours. Ah well, having the POI back is good enough, sometimes can’t have my cake and eat it too.
