Wayspot Removal Rejection Appeal

  • Wayspot Title: Greenfield Village Basketball Court

  • Location (lat/lon): 41.755365, -111.841004

  • City: Logan

  • Country: USA

  • Screenshot of the Rejection Email (do not include your personal information):

  • Additional Information (if any): Using the Cache County Parcel & Zoning Viewer (ArcGIS Web Application), and entering the Lat/Lon in the search in the top left, you will see that it takes you to a flat cement pad. That is not a basketball court. This is a multi-unit development community, and that pad is a future site for a building they are putting up. The image that was submitted for this Wayspot has a portable basketball hoop that someone dragged to this cement pad to make it seem like it might be a basketball court, but it most definitely is not.
Please let me know if there is any other information I can provide for this. Thank you.

Welcome to the forum

The visual evidence is unclear, combining streetview from 2024 with aerial images.

A more recent photograph or video showing that this is not a basketball court would be helpful.

Will do. The Cache County Parcel & Zoning Viewer I linked is much more up-to-date (images from 2026) and gives a clearer picture of that cement pad, but I can make the 1.5hr drive back up north this weekend to get better on-foot images showing this.

I looked at the site you provided, but this didn’t add much compared to the google aerial images. It just isn’t clear that this site is going to be a building.

I wouldn’t spend the effort driving up there. It would probably be better to revisit this if you are ever in the area anyway, or more up-to-date streetview/aerial images become available.

Hello and Welcome,

Whatever the plan for the “pad” this is definitely not a permanent basketball court.

Street View 2024 does not show it but the condition makes it obvious that it is old.

The base is of the type that someone would place at home, if this was official it would be sunk in to the ground and would not bo of a design that could just be lifted and stolen.

Definitely worth staff taking another look.

Good Luck

People that vote for portable basketball hoop submissions are just as bad as those who nominate them. I’m super curious how bad it looked. Do you have a pic of the Wayspot in the game?

Yikes! Even worse than I imagined! Reeks of a voting circle.

Thanks for the appeal, @nightstorm56! We took another look at the Wayspot in question and decided that it does not meet our criteria for removal at this time.

Thank you for looking.

For my future reference and knowledge, what meets criteria for removal? I ask because I submitted a pretty detailed list on why it wasn’t a valid Wayspot in the first place based on what should be classified as a Wayspot (portable basketball hoop next to a random cement pad, which should put this under “Does Not Exist”/“Temporary Structure”). Just don’t want to spam you guys with unwarranted removal requests and such.

Thanks for any additional information I can get to help any future processes!

They generally don’t remove a Wayspot for being temporary until it’s no longer there. In this case you’ll probably have to wait for a new Streetview photo or a house to go on sale at this location.

The removal criteria is much narrower than acceptance criteria, and the burden of proof is on the report. I don’t know if this list is still up to date: Has removal criteria changed?

In Wayfarer terms permanent/temporary isn’t exclusively determined by how an object is installed. Most “temporary” objects that were (correctly) accepted passed the permanent bar by evidence showing it’s been there for “quite some time”.

I suspect your report failed because this cement pad was already there Jul 2024 and this Wayspot is new. So maybe this was never going to be a house or the “community” repurposed an abandoned project as a basketball court.

That I don’t agree with. I reported a “At Home Basketball Hoop” that at been at the end of a cul-de-sac for several years (as shown on Street View) and it was removed.

Streetview shows that this was not there July 2024, this is less time than the 1 I reported.

The age / condition of the hoop shows that this wasn’t it’s original location. It is a temporary design that is unlikely to remain.

I am quite surprised by the decision on this one to be honest.

Hence “generally”.

To be clear I was saying the cement pad, not the hoop, was there Jul 2024. So either not going to be a house or an abandoned project.

I have received a reply from a report saying that it has now been accepted and my Report History states that it has been Retired.

The map is almost 6 days old at the moment so unable to confirm.

Yep, it definitely looks like it’s been removed from the map at this point. Thanks for doing follow-up on this! I appreciate it!
