Wayspot Restoration — Wayspot disappeared a week after approval from Niantic staff

When submitting a Wayspot Appeal, make sure to include as much of the following information as possible:

  • Wayspot Title: Placa Memorial - Rua Guiomar Carvalho Miranda
  • Location (lat/lon): (38.983015, -9.414845)
  • City: Lisbon
  • Country: Portugal
  • Screenshot of the Rejection Email (do not include your personal information): N/A
  • Additional Information (if any): My official appeal for this nomination was successfully accepted by Niantic Staff on September 3, 2026 (as proven by the screenshots below). The Pokéstop appeared in-game but completely vanished around one week later.

The S2 Level 17 cell is completely empty and there are no proximity conflicts. Because the removal was sudden and overrode a staff decision, could a forum administrator please look into this occurrence and restore the POI approved by the niantic staff?

Thank you for your assistance.

Hi welcome to the forum,

Is this the location:

It does look like it exists, in my view a very nice street sign, but it is in fact just a streetsign, I would not have approved it, but still I’m also surprised that it was removed.

Welcome to the forum

It may have been removed for being on the exterior boundary of single-family private residential property.

This could certainly have caused it, but looking at this neighbourhood, my guess would be that the concrete wall is the boundary, and the smaller stone wall city property

It’s arguable, just looking for the most likely removal reason. It exists, is not blatantly ineligible and is safely accessible, which rules out the other reasons.

agree, have seen worse wayspots that didn’t meet removal requirements

@pokemaster4u2 the street is named after a local benefactor, Guiomar Carvalho Miranda that left her entire estate to the local Social Center, hence it’s “cultural relevance” (for lack of a better expression) and that was probably why it was approved. It also contains the municipality coat of arms and is not a generic street sign as this street and the one that crosses it have this type of street sign (probably because they are both named after benefactors of the local community) but others do not.

@pokemaster4u2 yes the smaller stone wall is city property

What I find “interesting” here is that it was approved by Niantic themselves and removed around 1 week later without any warning or notice. I wonder if it was because of a database sync bug and not because of not meeting the requirements (once again, it was approved by Niantic and they know their own rules better than anyone)

You will never get a warning if it is removed. But we see plenty of examples of approved wayspots disappearing after a few days, they may have been reported, or an additional quality control may have caused it to disappear. Only the person who filed the removal report will get a notice, not the person who originally submitted it.

I’m not a fan of streetsigns, but as said, I do think it is strange this one was removed. It certainly is a nice one.

Probably @salixsorbus was right, and people think it is on private property, but also looking at the utility boxes in this area, I’m convinced the private property boundary is the concrete wall, but we have seen plenty of examples here at the forum, where similar wayspots were removed, as it was not clear enough that indeed that part is public property.

I also find that interesting, but you are slightly overestimating how well Scopely Explore know their own rules. When a submission is appealed or reviewed internally, it is a single staff member (or contractor or other third-party) who looks at the submission.

They do make some obvious mistakes. Examples are rejecting things like gyms which should have been accepted, or not removing wayspots which are blatantly on single-family private residential property or on schools.

My take is that internal reviews tend to be better than community reviewers but are not perfect.

Friendly bump for Administrator review after 18 days w/out response.

I would like to bring this case back to the staff’s attention as the POI was originally approved by Niantic Staff via Appeal on September 3, 2026, and suddenly vanished around 1 week later without justification.

As discussed with other community members in this thread, there might have been a misconception regarding Single-Family Private Residential Property (PRP) due to the adjacent walls. However, I want to clarify two critical technical points:

  1. Public Property Delineation: The high concrete wall defines the strict limit of the private residency. The smaller stone wall where the plaque is located is entirely municipal property, which is explicitly proven by the public utility meters and infrastructure boxes installed directly into it. It is a 100% public sidewalk right-of-way.
  2. Not a Generic Street Sign: This is a custom memorial plaque displaying the official municipality coat of arms. It honors Guiomar Carvalho Miranda, a historical local benefactor who donated her entire estate to the local Social Center. It is not a standard directional traffic sign; it carries deep local cultural value.

From the maps view posted by pokemaster4u2 you can see that it is attached to the shared wall that is municipal — thus public — property and that this is a public sidewalk (proven by the sidewalk and the utility boxes).

Could an administrator please verify if this removal was an automated database sync glitch or if it was a purposeful decision?

Thank you for your time.
