Wayspots in Parking Lots

I’m a bit confused. I’ve seen wayspots removed in cul de sacs for being unsafe, but I’ve reported a few wayspots in the middle of a parking lot, and those reports were denied. Are parking lots considered safe? (in that case I won’t reject them anymore for unsafe location).

Cul de sac Wayspots can be safe if traffic is extremely light. This is uncommon and burden of proof is on the submission.

Parking lots are a bit more complicated. A mural next to the entrance is very different than one that no car is expected to pass by. A village parking lot is not the same as one in CBD.

In most cases I would actually consider cul de sacs safe enough, in general my view was always, if I would let my kids play there, it is without a doubt safe.

And in general I do not consider parking lots safe (I’m talking about wayspots in the middle of larger parking lots, not the outside where there are safe places to stand), for example this one:

In terms of pedestrian access, the function of a parking lot is to park your car and get out and walk on foot.

It is hard to make generalisations that apply in 100% of situations.

Ah yes signfarer strikes again!

This sign is a proxy to the hotel which is safely accessible. You can ask support to move it to the hotel entrance but it will most likely be rejected because photo is on the sign. I hope staff will see this and just fix it.

Regarding things like cul de sacs and neighborhood / entry signs I look for proximity to a sidewalk, or in underdeveloped areas check street view to see if it looks like there is regular foot traffic through the area.

Parking lots I would think are generally considered safe for pedestrians since the intent is for you to park your car and walk, as was stated, but again it’s at the discretion of the reviewer.

Ask yourself “Would I be comfortable walking here with a group of friends?” as a general starting point.

Hope that helps!
