What is the point of accepting a Wayspot if it does not appear in Pokémon GO?

Hi everyone,

I’m trying to understand how this system is supposed to work because I’m honestly quite frustrated.

I have had two Wayspot nominations accepted through Wayfarer, but neither of them has appeared in Pokémon GO. Both are legitimate, permanent locations that passed the review process, so naturally I expected an accepted nomination to become usable in the game from which I submitted it.

I understand that Pokémon GO has its own inclusion rules and that not every accepted Wayspot is guaranteed to become a PokéStop or Gym. However, this raises a genuine question for me: what is the point of submitting and reviewing Wayspots through Pokémon GO if an accepted nomination may never appear in Pokémon GO at all?

As a player, the process feels confusing because “Accepted” sounds like the nomination was successful, while the actual result in Pokémon GO can be no change whatsoever.

I would really appreciate clarification on why accepted Wayspots are excluded from Pokémon GO, whether they can appear later, and whether there is any way for a player to know before submitting that a location is unlikely to be eligible for inclusion in Pokémon GO.

I’m not questioning the acceptance criteria themselves; I’m trying to understand the disconnect between “Accepted in Wayfarer” and “appears in Pokémon GO.”

Thanks for any clarification.

Hey there, welcome to the forums! If a wayspot doesn’t become a PokéStop or Gym, it can become a power spot in Pokémon GO aswell. Also there are other games that also use the Wayfarer database, which have different inclusion rules such as Pikmin Bloom.

Also, an existing wayspot might get removed because the POI no longer exists, causing an “unused” wayspot to be upgraded.

Hello and Welcome,

It has been requested many times on these forums that the terminology should be improved.

You are not nominating a Pokestop. You are nominating a wayspot that if Accepted is Accepted in to the database.

Each Game then looks at these wayspots and decides using its own Inclusion Rules which will be used and how the will be used.

Staff will not discuss how the Proximity Rules work but players have pretty much worked this out themselves.

If you post the Title and Location (long / lat works best and will be shown in the 1st email you receive when you made the nomination) and we can confirm.

Good Luck

Welcome to the forum!

You can know ahead of time, but it does require third party “wayfarer tools” which we are not allowed to link to on the forum.

Just to add that if you do decide to learn about the Inclusion Rules these should never be used to mis-place something to get it in to the game. This is deemed as Abuse and can lead to warnings / suspension of both Wayfarer and GAMES accounts.

Totally understand looking in locations where nominations would be used in the game of your choice but other nominations are not a waste of time.

As well as those stated above Powerspots are a relatively new user of the previously unused wayspots. There is nothing to say that Scopely won’t bring in another new feature that will use even more in the future.

I’m looking forward to the “Super Fantastic Brilliant Dynamax Gigantamax Hybrid Mega Mega Raid Locations” to be introduced…

I agree pokemon players put a lot work on submitting this spots and other games get the rewards for it .. that is not right . If a pokemon player summit something and gets approved it should only show in pokemon go not other games period!!! I have summiteed over 10 spots and got approved and only 1 showed in pokemon go .. thats not fair!!!

Wayspot being used in another two game titles doesn’t mean it’s taken away from Pokémon GO. Some Wayspots are actually used across all three titles.
Even if I know a Wayspot won’t show up in Pokémon GO, I still submit it, and I’m more than happy if it gets used in the other two games. Though, in Monster Hunter Now, the map hasn’t been updated for a long time.
This is just my personal opinion, but I feel the current inclusion rules for Pokémon GO might be a bit too strict. For instance, things might improve if they changed the control zone level by one step—making the area 4 times larger—and allowed up to 4 Wayspots within that zone instead. Of course, that’s not something Wayfarer can decide.

Wayfarer is a tool designed to develop a real world game map to be used by different games. It is not a part of Pokémon Go. I consider it to be a game itself to help the gaming community.

A lot of the wayspots currently in PoGo where nominated by players of Ingress. With your suggestion we have just lost a massive amount of Stops / Gyms…

It would be so much fun, if the requirements for a wayspot to become a pokestop was changed so we could have denser points of pokestops. It could create more natural places to meet and lure up. The gym density is fine, but places could use with more pokestops. Especially in rural areas where they have 1 area that could be incredibly dense in pokestops and therefore creating a natural meeting point based on the interest in the area, and not where the S2 cells overlap perfectly with wayspot placement and infrastructure.

I will agree to this bit of your comment as long as Scopely can find a way to find real “Wayspot Deserts”.

I believe that this is what they are attempting to do with the trials (Bus Stops & Street Corners), there are different opinions on if this is successful or not.

For other areas I would not be a fan. I am not a “More Stops = Better Game” person. IMO a place can be over saturated and for me that is no fun. Why get out if I can do everything sat on the couch. I am happy that I can’t reach a spot from home and happy that I can reach a few with a short walk.
