Why was my nomication rejected and appeal denied?

Title:
Chula Vista Harbor Park Pier

Description:
A public waterfront pier extending into San Diego Bay at Chula Vista Harbor Park. The pier is commonly used for fishing, walking, sightseeing, and enjoying panoramic views of the harbor and bay.

Supplemental:
This publicly accessible pier is a recreational destination along the Chula Vista waterfront. Visitors regularly walk the pier to fish, enjoy views of San Diego Bay, observe the surrounding harbor, and spend time along the waterfront. Its dedicated pedestrian design and established recreational use make it a natural destination for outdoor activity and exploration within the park.

Appeal Notes

Chula Vista Harbor Park Pier is a permanent public recreational pier on the Chula Vista waterfront and meets Wayfarer eligibility criteria as a place for exploration, exercise, and recreation. Visitors can walk the pier to experience views of San Diego Bay, the marina, wildlife, and the surrounding Harbor Park waterfront. The nomination represents the pier itself, not any regulatory signage or other incidental objects visible in the photographs. The pier is a distinct, permanent pedestrian-accessible destination with safe public access from Harbor Park. I believe the automated rejection incorrectly evaluated the nomination and respectfully request that it be reviewed based on the pier as the nominated Wayspot.

Niantic Note

Thanks for the appeal, Wayfinder! We can confirm that there is a Live Wayspot connected to the same pier which is a duplicate of your appealed nomination and as a result, we are unable to approve this nomination.

Niantic says is a duplicate but this nomination is for the pier itself.
I don’t see any other duplicates. The closes thing might be the “The Big Bay” spot which is not for the pier.

The Wayspot for Chula Vista Harbor Park Fishing Deck 32.623461,-117.105106 looks exactly like one of your supporting photos. They may have considered it a duplicate of that.

Wayspot photo

so i tried to add pictures of the pier in its entirety .. hence why the was in there

I am not staff. I am just guessing why they decided it was duplicate.

Was the original rejection community, in house, or “automated process”?

Original rejection was automated

I recognise this pier.

The pier is only ever going to get one wayspot. Either you already achieved this following your earlier posts or someone else did it for you

It’s very hard to perceive the fishing deck as being a distinct thing from the pier itself. There is no obvious fishing location at the end, as the end of the pier looks like the rest of it.

I felt certain I had seen this before and was looking! Thanks

Unless there is a specific destination along the pier that you (the OP) can pin the nomination to, I don’t see this being accepted separately from the end point and the entrance. You did a beautiful job with that photo, and I have no notes for improving this submission. Maybe they will add more of those information signs along it.

I get it, I just wished there was more consistency in this rule\implementation as I have seen other pokestop nomination (inlcuding piers) be approved with just the location picture an no anchor… First one that comes to mind is that Santa Monica Board Walk.

I hear you but I feel like thats not consistent with how pokestops are approved. Similar how park benches right next to each other get approved. Theoritically speaking this is the only stop being nominated for the pier itself, I would understand if it was multiple stops with the exact same name and description just different location in the pier…

As you can see, he gave a destination on the pier that was a separate feature.

I will tag him to see if he has any tips for you. @ThePrimeOracle

Unless I am being Bias lol, I am looking at my description and supplemental information that I submitted. I feel like I did the same thing.

This is the description of the existing wayspot, which was accepted on 17th August 2026

“A dedicated fishing and viewing platform at the end of the Chula Vista Harbor Park Pier. The widened deck provides anglers and visitors with a spacious waterfront area for fishing and enjoying panoramic views across San Diego Bay.”

This is not true, as the deck is not widened and there is no dedicated fishing and viewing platform, based on aerial images and the wayspot main image.

Therefore, this wayspot, Chula Vista Harbor Park Fishing Deck, is a proxy for the pier itself.
