Withdraw a nomination being voted

When will be possible to withdraw a nomination that started to be voted?

It sometimes happens your nomination is not accurate, due to several factors, mainly in big cities or after a tiring gaming day.
When you check it after days, you realise something was really bad, but the voting process has already started.

Being able to withdraw at any time would be a great addition. So subsequent adjustments would not be necessary and the system would be lightened.

Welcome to the community! I think a Niantic employee can give you the specifics, but explorers who start to vote on nominations are expecting to get a potential % point toward their upgrade. So if your nomination is removed before completion, then some explorers could miss out.

I believe the only way to remove your nomination is to go to the Help section and go to the chat bubble and request the nomination to be removed… but not 100% sure.

I’ve looked for some answers, but there seems to be no solution.

Please I wish (I urge) I could find a way to block old proposals that may contain errors.

GPS may go wrong in some places and when nominating from home you may miss exact position, even checking phone-map.
Thanks

We used to be able to withdraw nominations from “in voting” but that option was removed. It got added back at one point and silently removed, again.

Not sure which flip was a flop and any guidance has been “working as intended.”

When you submit a nomination, the final step of the process is to confirm all of the provided information is accurate. Aside from that, as suggested above, your only chance is to contact Niantic Wayfarer support via the chat bubble, but that will be at their discretion.

No way to withdraw a pending nomination, it seems.

You are absolutely right but errors can happen.

Good morning,

Has a method to withdraw nominations been introduced in the last year? It has happened again: I submitted a nomination in the wrong location, and it entered the voting stage before I noticed the mistake.

This can happen for several reasons, such as a faulty GPS, a poor internet connection on-site, or an incorrect geotag on a newly taken photo (also due to GPS or connectivity issues).

Furthermore, the new nomination system is quite complicated, and browsers like Safari struggle with moving and zooming on the map, which makes the process very challenging. Since nominations must be submitted within 10 km of your location, it is difficult to be precise when you are in a wild or unfamiliar area where the satellite view is hard to read (due to trees, sand, or rough terrain).

Once submitted in these remote areas, the Wayfarer preview does not show street names, nearby wayspots, or a clear satellite view that can be verified or compared later at home.

I apologize for my English, but I wanted to do my best to explain the situation clearly, as I do not want to be banned for a single mistake after over a year of contributing. Has a system to contact moderators privately been introduced, or perhaps a support form?

Thank you for your prompt reply!

Hey @awbrome ,

You cannot withdraw nominations in voting. However, if you share the title of the nomination in question, I’ll be happy to assist you with your request.

Thanks,

Once a submission goes into voting, it cannot be withdrawn. This is because it would be unfair to ask reviewers to spend time assessing something, only to have their vote disgarded.

This is entirely something that you, as the submitter, have to overcome. If you are physically there, but going to submit later, use some way of recording where the submission location is so that you can find it later.

If you are submitting remotely, you just have to take care. The web submission has not made it harder - this was always an issue in Pokemon Go.

Hi Aaron, pleased to year you!

I can give you the nomination and all the geotagged pictures I took last tuesday, of course. Would it be possible to rectify the nomination, as it is far from home and I will not go back there before 2-3 weeks?

Can we talk in a private message please?

Thanks for your assistance Aaron

1 error on 100 can occurr and this system is not perfect. I tried to explain good reasons anyway, for instance the fact that a drafted nomination can’t be submitted lately at home if you are 10 kms away.

Thanks in any case for you prompt reply!

Usually you can’t change a nomination while in voting, so my advice is to ask to remove the nomination with an incorrect placement from voting.

You won’t get a warning/ban if you ask for removal, but if you know it is incorrect and don’t ask for removal you do run the risk of getting a warning/ban.

Better safe than sorry

Hi @ScopelyExpAaron,

I have the same situation. I accidentally submitted an earlier version of a nomination and didn’t realize it had gone through. It is now In Voting, and I have since created a corrected and improved version.

Could you please remove/reject the older nomination currently In Voting?

Please remove:
The Infinity Pool at Residences on The Green
Submitted: October 1, 2026
Status: In Voting

Please do NOT remove:
The Infinity Pool of the Residences at The Green
Submitted: October 6, 2026
Status: On Hold

I have placed the corrected October 6 nomination on Hold and will leave it there until the older nomination has been removed.

Thank you very much for your help.

Done

awbrome, blueraffa74, could I suggest that you both explore the ‘drafts’ option?

This might go some way to prevent this happening in future, as you can set it up while at the potential POI, input all the details and then go home and refine it at your leisure. So long as you have saved the draft within 10km of the POI location, then you will be able to press ‘submit’ from anywhere.

Thank you so much. You rock! :guitar:
