A waystop that I thought was a slam dunk was rejected by Niantic

There is lots to discover in the garden, if you look up you will see many native birds that have made their homes in the trees, if you look down you will be able to spot small metal animal sculptures hidden amongst the garden for children to find while they are exploring. There is a carpark located at -37.605473052239496, 145.11656718915972 specifically for people outside the area to come and visit the garden.

Hi all, I’m fairly new to Wayfarer, this was my 3rd ever nomination and the first one to get rejected. It went to Under Review (with the little Niantic logo) rather than going to voting and then got rejected, so I assume it was a staff member that rejected the submission, would you be able to help me see where I went wrong?
It seems to be rejected based on the explore criteria but community gardens are listed under the explore criteria. The community garden isn’t small either, it’s around 70m x 15m (if the google maps measurement tool is to be trusted). It’s the perfect place to explore, there are even little metal animal sculptures hidden throughout the garden to find (you can see a small pig one in the 2nd supplemental photo). The garden is by no means famous but people do genuinely come from outside the local area to have a walk through it, if you look on google maps you’ll even see Twist Walk Customer Parking located at -37.605473052239496, 145.11656718915972
I really thought this spot was a slam dunk and thought I had added enough info and pictures to get it through. One thing that may have been a knock against it is that I tried to make another nomination around 40m away at the same garden, this 2nd nomination got instantly rejected by the AI straight after this one was rejected. I had added the exact same supplemental info for it.
Could it be that my 2nd nomination got the first one rejected because it would potentially be more appropriate for both nominations to be combined into a single one?

Should I appeal the decision? I imagine it’d be hard to get something appealed that a staff member rejected.
Should I resubmit as just a single waystop?
Or am I just completely off on what is considered a good waystop and just accept the rejection?

Hello and Welcome,

The 1st issue is the location. The Location stated is not next to any building as shown in the supplemental and about 600m from the carpark location.

A single bench is always difficult to get accepted, criteria is at Seating Benches

In regards to the Bird Bath, it does not look like anything unique, something you could buy for the garden.

I am still having problems locating it against the rounded building shown, lack of Street View is not helping.

You will still have to have a strong case of how a single bench will meet criteria, Picnic benches encourage people to gather where as this looks more ornamental especially it’s location doesn’t make it look like they actually expect it to be used as a bench :frowning:

Yeah you can’t really see it on street view as it’s not a street itself, it’s a walkway with the community garden.
If the bench and the bird bath themselves are the issues do you think it’s appropriate to just submit the entire community garden itself as a wayspot?

Possibly but you will need to make a convincing argument that it is in fact a community garden and not just landscaping.

Yes, that is my feedback. You nominated a single bench. But in your first comment you talked about the community garden. A community garden can be a great place to explore and even to be social.

I nominated a community garden today myself. It was the kind with planter boxes for growing vegetables. It had a lovely little bench under a large shade tree. And it had a nice potting shed where people could store their supplies - something i don’t often see in community gardens around here but it made it a lot more workable, IMO. Despite both those extra features, i still only made 1 nomination of the whole garden.

The garden is visible from streetview and one wayspot would be sufficient for it as a whole, not individual features.

The entire garden is also easier to submit, because it can be confirmed from streetview. You can use the seat as an anchor.

Use web submission so that you can have multiple supporting photos that link back to streetview.
