Banned for malicious image submission

Hello, as the tittle states I was banned for malicious image submission but do not understand why. I was on vacation in another country and harmlessly submitted a wayspot for a cool location near where I was staying. It’s a spot that locals know about and has a public path to get to it and is well marked and documented online. The pictures I used were not copyrighted or anything else that the guidelines say they should not be. I am so confused and devastated about the ban and feel hopeless about getting it appealed. I play the game for hours each day and have sunk a lot of money into it. I would even just appreciate more information as to why this happened.

Hello and Welcome,

If you would like advice please post all the information… Photos, Title, Description, Supplemental and the location you placed it (taken from the 1st email you get when you nominate).

Good Luck

were the photos available on any third party site?

There is the issue. Did you take this photo? Did you share it anywhere if you did?

It’s a picture provided by the place we were staying that shows the whole Punta Sanfrancisco.

That means it isn’t a photo that you own. Third party photos can be a legal issue if you use them. It’s one of the more black and white rules when it comes to wayfarer, and it even specifically tells you not to do this when you submit through Pokémon Go (but not when you submit through the wayfarer website, for some reason).

Here are the rules from the Help tab https://wayfarer.nianticlabs.com/new/help/photo-guidelines

The following should not be submitted and, when reviewing, should be considered as rejection criteria:

  • Copyrighted and 3rd party photos (e.g. watermarked stock photos and photos from maps sites)

Staff do look at all posts on the forum, and they may start a DM with you to discuss the issue. Going forward, only use photos you took with your camera to submit Wayspots. This is not just a rule, it is a legal issue.

Just a couple of questions…

How long is the suspension?

Is this the only instance that you used an image that you did not take yourself?

Plus just to add…

This has no bearing on what has happened, everyone should be treat the same no matter how much they have spent…

I was not saying I shouldn’t be banned for spending money.

The only issue I’ve had before was a duplicate submission warning

I genuinely had no idea about that, and had not run into it before this.

I only mentioned the “money” as you mentioned it and as this post can be seen as an appeal against the suspension the amount you spend should have no bearing on it.

Staff can jump rungs on the abuse ladder. IMO a 1 off “mistake” could have been a 1 day warning and a educational email but I am not staff. I do not know what evidence they have or their internal policies so I would never go against their decision.

IMO: This is a steep learning curve and you will need to sit it out for a while then come back stronger and wiser.

Sorry for the situation and Good Luck.

fyi everyone who has answered so far have just been fellow forum members trying to help you understand. staff are clearly identified by their user names. i hope we will be able to help you going forward, but only staff can do anything concerning the ban.

I understand, my goal is to just understand better to go forward. I submitted the appeal through the proper channels and am hopeful to hear back from them with relative speed.

That is very likely to have only been a rejection for that submission, not a separate warning, so would not have been a step on the abuse enforcement ladder.

Welcome. I am sorry to hear this. If the suspension come from wayfarer you will receive something like this

Did you appeal using the link inside suspension email? Its weekend so staff might take a while to notice. But if you already make appeal , you are on the right track

Yes I used the email to submit the appeal.

Thank you for the information. Wayfarer staff usually take a while to respond. But once they do, you can explain the situation to them privately.

Hi @cole2dahizy ,

Welcome to the Wayfarer Community.

I have shared the relevant details in a DM. Please check.
