Can a sponsored Starbucks Wayspot block other PokéStops in an L17 cell?

I’m trying to understand what’s happening in this Level 17 S2 cell.

The Wayfarer map shows several Wayspots inside the cell, but none of them currently appear in Pokémon GO. There is also a sponsored Starbucks location in the cell.

I was under the impression that sponsored Wayspots do not count toward the normal one-PokéStop/Gym-per-L17-cell limit, so I expected at least one of the regular Wayspots to be able to appear in Pokémon GO.

Am I misunderstanding how sponsored locations interact with the normal S2 inclusion rules? Could the Starbucks be preventing another Wayspot in this cell from appearing, or is there another reason a cell like this could contain multiple accepted Wayspots but no regular PokéStop or Gym?

I’ve attached a screenshot of the cell with the Wayspots visible.

I am not 100% so hopefully someone in the know will confirm whether I am right or wrong.

I am under the impression that it depends when the sponsored stop is added.

It will not remove current wayspots that are already on the map.

It will block new wayspots that are added afterwards.

this is what i have seen reported as well. also not 100% sure.

the only thing i would change is “will block” to “may block”

I have successfully submitted wayspots in cells where community ambassador location already exists, and it appeared in game.
More experienced members of the community told me this was due to them being treated as sponsored stops and ‘therefore can be in the same cell’.

Hopefully this mean your wayspot will appear (if it’s new it may just not have synced yet), but if not - sponsorships don’t last forever and it might appear later :folded_hands:

This information is not accurate. They are fundamentally different.

Are sponsored wayspots and normal wayspots fundamentally different or are Community Ambassador wayspots and sponsored wayspots fundamentally different?

Both.

Thanks for the clarification
