Database sync bug - Historical Gym incorrectly stuck as a PokéStop in Sora, Italy

Hi Niantic Team,

I am reporting a severe database synchronization bug that has incorrectly downgraded a well-known historical Gym to a simple PokéStop.

The location listed below is a historic Gym in the city of Sora, Italy. Local players still hold the Gold Gym Badge for this specific location in our profiles with significant historical stats (my personal badge, attached as a screenshot, shows 382 battles won and 284 total days defended).

Due to a system error, this historic location has suddenly lost its Gym status and is now stuck as a PokéStop, which makes no sense given its long-standing history and high community engagement (15 total photos/likes). The map algorithm seems completely frozen and refuses to update the zone correctly.

Could an administrator please perform a manual hard-refresh on this specific database zone to resolve this system glitch and restore our historic Gym status?

Here are the details:

Thank you for your assistance in resolving this technical issue.

Welcome to the forum

Was this wayspot moved recently?

That area has three gyms, which is the correct number.

Rovine (41.721882,13.618831)
Busto Di Amedeo Carnevale (41.722534,13.616148) (this cell also has a pokestop)
Chiesa Di Santa Maria Assunta (41.723262,13.615656)

Can you tell if any of these only became a gym recently?

Hi,

The Gym you are referring to, “Rovine”, was already present when the Gym “Croce Al Bivio” was downgraded due to a bug. The same goes for the other two Gyms you mentioned. All four of them are long-standing, historic Gyms in the city. However, please note that “Rovine” is not located in the same local zone as “Croce Al Bivio”.

Yes it is - maybe it moved?

The purple pin with the yellow circle is “Rovine”; the red marker is at “Croce Al Bivio”.

The red lines mark the S2 L14 cell in which 3 gyms can and do appear.

I compared between Wayfarer and Ingress.

The location got moved.

Since the L14 cell had too many gyms, the location edit has triggered a recalculation of the cell and downgraded the gym. This is normal behaviour and as such, nothing can be done unless another gym downgrades or is removed.

Indeed, so there is no bug, the cell behaves as expected (except for the cell with the pokestop L Fontantun and the gym Rovine)

Hey @Mammeta100 ,

Thanks for your feedback. We’re constantly making improvements to Pokémon GO and occasionally, you may notice changes to the PokéStops or Gyms in your community. While we are not able to fulfill your request to add back this locations as a Gym at this time, we recognize the disappointment this may have caused and hope you continue to seek out adventures at other PokéStops and Gyms in your surrounding communities.

Thanks,

Apparently yes, there was a coordinate adjustment from what I can see. Previously, all four of these Gyms coexisted perfectly. As you can see—and I am absolutely not making this up—this location, “Croce Al Bivio”, which is now a PokéStop, was genuinely a Gym. In fact, I still have the Gold Gym Badge for it in Pokémon GO. It has 15 total votes/likes, making it one of the most popular and important points of interest in the area, if not the most important one itself.

Before the update, the “Rovine” Gym was located in the adjacent cell right on the border. It is still on the border now, but it has shifted into this level 14 cell.

The location adjustment of “Rovine” caused some sort of recalculation. I’m not sure anyone outside Scopely Explore understands fully what the recalculations are, but this will have to suffice as an explanation, since SE will never explain how the cells work.

The point is that the recalculation was handled incorrectly anyway, given that “Rovine” does not have the same amount of votes/likes as “Croce Al Bivio”. This makes no sense at all.

Votes are irrelevant for gyms. They used to be used to select the gyms, but that stopped a couple of years ago. Gym selection is now effectively done randomly.
