This is a Pokémon go specific question. I am aware there is a maximum of 2 power spots active per level 14 S2 cell. I am also aware of how power spots get selected (separate database of business addresses + unused wayspots).
My question is - if there are valid power spot candidates, does a level 14 cell get a guaranteed minimum of 1 power spot?
I have a cell that has historically had 3 power spots that rotate around. A few months ago I reported one of these spots as invalid (it was a business registered at someone’s private residence). It was removed. Not long after, the other 2 PoIs (a playground and a BBQ station at a nearby park), stopped appearing as power spots too. No power spots at all have spawned in that level 14 cell for about 3 weeks now. Is this normal? How often does the list of power spots that will rotate in a given cell get updated?
Hi,
The mechanics of powerspots appearance have not been fully worked out by the community.
It would appear that there is a 22m exclusion zone around a pokestop or gym. So there is a minimum distance. Could it be in your case that some new pokestops have been added that are now blocking the powerstops that you were previously seeing?
If you go to that location and start the process of making a new wayspot submission, do the powerspots appear on the map as orange pins. If not then they have fully gone.
Powerspots are not only from imports they also utilise previously unused wayspots.
So if there is a a second wayspot in a level 17 more than 22m from the pokestop it can be selected to be a powerspot.
So if there are places where previously you havent submitted because it will be blocked you could submit and it may become a powerspot.
There has been a pattern of sync of powerspots on the 4th (PST) of each month.
So by all means get out there and submit some wayspots.
I think the info above is correct and if its not or poorly expressed please feel free to correct me. Powerspots are not actually a wayfarer issue.
Thanks for these ideas. I had a look in the submission view and the wayspots are still there; I’ve included a screenshot. the circled spots are the ones that normally come through as power spots. It may look like another wayspot on the right is too close, but this is one of the imported business ones that has been around since before the other 2 have been used as power spots.
None of the other 3 wayspots in the picture have been used as power spots before - it’s possible that these are too close to something else. Regardless, the two that have been used before are still there and there’s no new wayspots that have been added close by to invalidate them.
It sounds as though these powerspots for whatever reason did not get picked up for the sync on 4th September.
Please do let us know if any reappear after the 4th October somewhere in that level 14.
Update: the playground wayspot came back up as a power spot! So it seems like we just had a month there where 0 power spots were selected for the cell, or perhaps the removed wayspot was the only one selected? One thing I haven’t tested is going to where the removed wayspot was and using the submission view to see if it’s still in the database.
