Nomination rejected - Community park without a sign

What would you change if I appealed to have this pokespot approved? There is no sign for this community park/dog park/walking trail. There is another pokestop of a bench along a walking trail on the other side of the neighborhood. There are no pokestops on this side of the neighborhood.

This “automated process” is a machine learning model Wayfarer uses. We don’t know exactly what it looks for, but often a nomination can be improved a little to avoid this rejection. Or you can use an appeal. We get two appeals, each on a 15 day counter before we can use them again. I usually recommend a resubmit try first, since we have more nominations than appeals.

Contrary to what you might think from playing Pokemon Go in some places, benches are not usually eligible on their own merits. Most of them are not a great place to exercise, explore, or be social. See Wayspot Criteria — Wayfarer Help Center

However, on satellite and street view, this is a nice little park for the area, and those bench clusters would be eligible as a place to be social imo. Taking a photo that shows the grouping would be better to represent the park or social aspect of this area.

Both of these circles are in the same Level 17 S2 cell, so only one could be a Pokestop or gym, but the other could be eligible to potentially be used as a Power Spot.

I can’t find a good angle to demonstrate how I would take the photo, but I would step away from the circle area and take a photo that includes both benches to make it clearer this is a destination area, not just a random spot by the sidewalk. Something like this (but don’t use a street view snip) might be easier for the ML model to understand as eligible.

If you are going to submit both circles, you could use titles like Riverside Village Park North Circle or Riverside Village Park Social Circle South. I am not great with creative titles.

If you decide to go with an appeal instead of a resubmit, I would recommend emphasizing that the bench represents a signless park, but I have no idea if that will sway them since you emphasized that you were submitting the bench in the nomination. The appeals reviewers sometimes surprise me both in their accepts and their rejects.

You’ll have to see your nomination through the eyes of a reviewer, regardless of any ideas you have yourself.

For instance, in this case, I see a nomination of a standard bench. It’s even the title of the nomination.

No special scenery. No beautiful environment. Just a bench looking at some trees. Nothing special.

No park mentioned on google maps.

Nothing special, not a great place to explore, so an instant reject as being not distinct.

If you have something else in mind, you’ll have to present your nomination differently. You can try to argue at this forum that the reviewers are wrong and they should see it differently, but that is useless. All they see is this nomination, not any further background.

Even the explanationary text will be useless; it’s only statements that you make, but reviewers already have made up their mind with the photo and title and description.
