This morning I was permanently banned for ‘using multiple accounts for same service’ though I don’t recall doing anything that violates the terms of service. I would appreciate if someone could tell me as to why my account was permanently suspended and if it’s reversible. I also haven’t received any prior emails or warnings.
Thanks!
That definitely sounds like it has come from Pokemon Go, you will need to contact them directly.
Wayfarer still do not deal with Pokemon Go.
That’s what I originally thought, but the email itself came from wayfarer so I’m not too sure
In that case I can only suggest waiting for a Staff reply.
You may have to wait due to the weekend.
Good Luck
K, thanks
Hello and welcome @MoizemerThe3rd
Can I check did you get a set of several emails?
It is the weekend so it might take awhile for staff to respond.
The best advice is to be fully honest when discussing this.
Hey, I’ll be completely transparent
I received just a single email stating my account has been permanently suspended for using multiple accounts for Services or something of that wording. If it has something to do with multiple accounts on a device, this device I use has my account and my younger siblings’ account whom I managed to convince to play the game quite often, but not as hardcore as I do. We share a phone since he doesn’t have one yet, so my assumption is maybe I was mistaken for having a bot account? Whatever the case maybe, both of our accounts were banned as of earlier this morning. Neither of us have received any sort of warning, or prior suspension/ punishment, so this came as a complete surprise (I’m confident he hasn’t received any emails since I monitor his email) Any other info you need or would like? Again, I’m totally okay with giving away any info you may need
Yeah I can definitely see that happening, hope someone can help you out with this
Hopefully, even if it doesn’t, I’m still curious as to what caused the ban in the first place
If it’s from wayfarer then if the offence is serious enough you can go straight to the top of the enforcement ladder -it is not a sequence of steps.
The wayfarer team will have full details of what has been sent and why.
It is unusual to go straight to the top that would indicate a major offence.
So whilst waiting for staff have a good think about what you and your relatives have been doing on wayfarer that would be against the rules.
If you haven’t already done so make sure you appeal addressing what you have done. it will be fully reviewed by a human….but they give standard responses.
Okay, what contributes as a major transgression? I want to see if maybe I did commit one. If that’s the case, then I’d say our bans are fair but to my knowledge, neither of us have.
That’s the policy.
I don’t think we know the Different degrees of breeches of the rules.
But examples of the range of things that people regularly come here that have had sanctions for are.
Using 3rd party photos
Misplacing the location
Manipulation of the map for game advantage
Fake wayspots
Collaborating in a review circle
And others
Oh okay, It must have been a mistake then since none of these ring a bell as to what we may have done. If it was a ban for having multiple accounts on one device, then the automated system may have flagged it. There are only two accounts present on my device, and we switch accounts depending on who’s playing or who wants to play. I can confidently say neither of us have broken any of the rules you sent that would result in a perma ban.
Do you do any review on wayfarer? Is it possible that both of you review the same nomination?
Sharing a phone with a sibling to play Pokémon Go should not result in a ban issued by Wayfarer - this will relate to your Wayfarer activity.
It suggests both accounts have a review or submission pattern that is suspicious. I would wait to see if staff can give you more information via DM. But have a think about what you’ve been doing in Wayfarer and how that might relate
Both of us do use Wayfarer, I’m not sure what he does, but I normally skip nominations that I’m not familiar with/aren’t anywhere near my area to be as accurate as possible (Sorry!). We do often run into the same nominations, so we’ll discuss together if it’s real and worth making into a POI. Recently, a stop appeared near us that was fake (someone had moved it from the park into their backyard) and we both reported the stop multiple times. Could that have anything to do with it?
I am afraid this will need staff to explain further. Please be patient because it is weekend
K, thanks
Both reporting a fake wayspot should not be an issue.
If your account ban gets rescinded and you are able to carry on reviewing, please be aware that this is the wrong way to review.
You do not need to be familiar with an area in order to review wayspots. Everything you need should be in the submission. If the submitter has made no attempt to justify something that isn’t obviously eligible or has made no attempt to provide evidence of it existing at that location, and streetview (etc) is not helping, you are perfectly entitled to choose to reject it, even if it is thousands of miles away from you.
It is generally better not to be reviewing things from your own area, as the likelihood of being caught up in a review circle is much much less.
As @TjoeMi said, the real answer will have to come from the official staff.
But in general:
- skipping is allowed
- you are even allowed to review nominations from your friends, but only if you treat them the same (so don’t approve ineligible wayspots from your friends)
- you are however not supposed to collaborate on the reviews, so if you and a family member both have the same reviews, it will look like a review ring, if you also use the same IP address, this could certainly trigger an investigation.
