We were just discussing on a different post, but I do believe this deserves its own topic. Mods will probably move this to Nomination Support rather than Review Support though. Would you be comfortable sharing the location so we can see what this looks like on Google Maps?
I believe the appeals reviewer saw what I see in this photo, just a row of mailboxes. That would just be infrastructure and would not meet the criteria of a great place to exercise, explore, or be social.
There are areas where there just isn’t anything eligible to submit. Wayfarer is much more fun if you are going out to find great destinations rather than trying to get a Pokestop where you want one.
Here is where the previous conversation began: Nominations are passing and not becoming Pokéstops - #6 by Himitsu777
I wish I understood more of what happens after I submit. You all talk about helping me in some way and I’m not keeping up because I need a deep explanation of what can be done. I need to understand the process better. I didn’t know that anything could be done. I thought this situation was 100% conjecture. So, the more I know the less angry I am because I will understand what to do next.
This is a complicated process, until experience is applied.
Without knowing, there is nothing but frustration and anger. I thought this was a parrot
box.
Moving forward will be easier now that I understand something can be done.
The location I am trying to get stops in rejects everything for everyone that tries.
I do use wayfarer for submitting as well. I have submitted this stop several times with both systems.
The saddest thing for me is living in a community as a failure for 7 years. I don’t care about myself bit, it does hurt to talk to people that live here and want a stop.
How do I give the forum what they want?
I’m being asked for GPS locations.
I thought they were embedded in the photos and used by the system?
Thank you!
Go to google maps, find this location, click on a random spot and you should see coordinates being presented, looking like -20.32323, 10.36735 (random example). Post that and it helps other people find this location.
First, Stop thinking “we want a pokestop here”, change to “what would make a good wayspot”.
The 1st part is find something that meets the main 3 criteria. That is something that encourages at least 1 of the following…
- Socialising
- Exercising
- Exploring
I use the term “Encourage” as you could do these anywhere but most places don’t encourage it.
The mail boxes are just somewhere to collect your mail, you could socialise, exercise and explore at them but it isn’t what they are for.
A park matches all 3.
A church is social and you explore faith.
Artwork such as at museum, on an authorised Mural etc allows you to explore.
A Hiking Trail encourages exercise.
There are then “Rejection Criteria” such as it can not be on Single Family Private Residence Property" or on School Property.
Until you start to understand the Criteria people here will help if you show them the full details. Whether its suitable at all, whether you could improve it etc.
Once you post the location people will scour the map and make suggestions. You do have to understand that some locations just don’t have anything suitable but people will try.
Good Luck
I almost never suggest creating something to submit as a Wayspot, because home-made items are rarely eligble. However, if you have a community here that wants a Pokestop, this could be great to get them to come together to establish a little free library on common ground. I have seen plenty of them set up at community mailbox banks. There is some expense involved in making these, but it could be something good for the community in general, as well as pokestop eligible, if the location is not on any individual single family private residential property.
Hey @Himitsu777 Are you in this general area?
Around E Prospect Road / Furnace Road
York, Pennsylvania 17406
39.965540, -76.545332
You are most helpful.
I’m tearing up.. thank you!!
There’s a recreational area with a tire swing.
Nothing passes. I am completely exhausted from this endeavor and I am socially worn down as well. We do have players here. The stigma gets deep after trying for years to understand something that is blocking the nominations. I’m not a complete fool. I have made an entire play zone for myself and my peers that slowly continues to grow.
I want to be honest with you. Sometimes I can’t wrap a concept of appreciation around my head because I’m already wearing a migraine headache.
I am trying my best. I’m going to post the coordinates here, now that I know how.
I don’t know how you all do your due diligence with Google maps.. nothing is updated for years.. it says a year.. more like 3 or 4 years.
The homes in this community were originally log Cabins. There are 3 left in the park. I live in one of them at [ mod edit personal information] The house you see in the Pokéstop is also an old timber built that was given a new foundation about 50 years ago.
There is recreational park behind the mailboxes with a tire swing that was also submitted as a Pokéstop and rejected. There IS a recreational area designated right there. 7 years of trying to understand this hurts.. thank you and everyone for your help!!!
I have removed your exact address as it is best not to publish such detail on the internet. But the postal area and co ordinates should be close enough for most to be able to look around ![]()
39.9637,-76.5358 for pasting into google maps
Nearby: Becky’s Kitchen 39.96539, -76.53816 (it has an imported powerspot but this doesn’t stop it being submitted as a wayspot, although that would almost certainly remove the powerspot)
Possible (no Streetview so cannot be sure what this is) : Corey’s Hobby Shop 39.96370, -76.53369
Is there anything else near this information board, as you sometimes get a cluster: Margaretta Furnace Historical Sign (39.962082,-76.535373)
I cannot find this pokestop: “The house you see in the Pokéstop is also an old timber built that was given a new foundation about 50 years ago.”
Are there any communal facilities, places where people meet?
I submitted the Margaret Furnace Historical sign.
That was rejected at first.
I might submit Becky’s Kitchen but, it does little for our community.. there is a showcase at Margaret Furnace and it IS used.. The people who live on Sam’s Spur Road can reach it from their homes.
So, somebody got help when I made that way point. But, i still need help. Thank you!!
Corey’s Hobby is rental at 154 Haven Drive. I submitted that several times but I doubt thatI did it correctly. It was rejected of course.
If you have doubts that you nominated it directly, feel free to share screenshots from your nomination so we can give you some advice. Make sure that all text and images are visible on your screenshots - the coordinates would also help.
Rejections can happen for eligible things (I cannot be sure this is eligible) if you make mistakes. As @GabrielPBC said, you can post here for advice before submitting.
In order to be accepted, a wayspot has to not fail any of the rejection criteria
- it has to be safely accessible to pedestrians
- it can’t be on school grounds, single-family private residential property, farmland
- it has to exist at the location given
- it has to have a reasonably accurate title and description
- the photo cannot contain licence plates, identifiable people, unnecessary animals
- it cannot represent something that already has a wayspot
- the photo must be one that you took and have not posted elsewhere
- it has to be reasonably distinct, not just a random location
It also has to meet one of the key criteria
- Exploration
- Exercise
- Social
Something can meet the key criteria but be rejected because it fails one of the rejection tests.
Something can pass all the rejection reasons but still not be eligible because it simply isn’t meeting criteria. When this happens and you want to resubmit (which is perfectly OK to do unless your POI is utter garbage), it is worth focusing in the supporting text on how it meets the key criteria.
Ok, I’ll be back.. I emotionally worn out and it’s past my bed time. Thank you very very much!!!
I will submit screen shots soon.
Thank you!!
Are there any picnic areas? Or could you potentially work with officials to create one somewhere?
Absolutely.. I have limited permission to improve the area. Advice is wanted. Thank you.
Then I would suggest creating picnic areas, maybe scenic benches, little free libraries, maybe even some hiking trails in common areas. Of course only do this legitimately and with official permission, don’t just DIY some stuff that will be removed immediately.
