Restoration of a removed Wayspot

  • Wayspot Title: Font de l’Abadia (I don’t remember if that was the title)
  • Location (lat/lon): 39º44’21.8"N 0º15’24.9"W
  • City: Benavites (Valencia)
  • Country: Spain
  • Screenshot of the Rejection Email (do not include your personal information):
  • Additional Information (if any): The Wayspot was removed, but the fountain still physically exists at its original location and has safe pedestrian access from the public right-of-way. I request a review of the Wayspot’s removal, as the object still exists and I believe it may have been removed in error.

Welcome to the forum.

This is just a drinking fountain, right? That would just be infrastructure and would not meet criteria unless there is something notable about this one. Just existing is not enough. Can you explain why this meets any of the criteria of a great place for exercise, exploration, or being social?

(I am not staff to make a decision on this. Just trying to help you present the best case for this appeal, if there is a case to be made.)

It is a popular spot for tourists, as it is the location of the parish house fountain. It is a point of interest where a Pokémon Route passes through. That PokéStop has been active for years, and I don't know why it has now been removed. We are a small town, and this decision makes it difficult for us to play Pokémon GO.

Unfortunately, none of what you have stated is criteria. Ignoring what is around it and what it was used for in Pokemon Go you need to show evidence why it meets criteria.

  • Socialise
  • Exercise
  • Explore

IMO: The only possible one is Explore. What makes this not just Infrastructure? Is it Historically listed with evidence?

These are the answer you will need to show staff to prove that it should be returned.

Good Luck

Thank you for your feedback.

I understand that the Wayspot needs to meet one of the eligibility criteria independently of its previous use in Pokémon GO.

I believe this fountain may qualify under the Explore criterion because it is a permanent and distinctive feature associated with the Casa Abadía and the historic centre of Benavites.

I am currently looking for official or historical documentation that can demonstrate the cultural or historical relevance of the fountain and its connection to the Casa Abadía.

If I can provide documented evidence of this historical significance, would that be sufficient for the restoration request to be reviewed again?

Thank you for your guidance.

This would be up to staff but any Evidence you can find specifically on the fountain can only help.

Can I at least know why the Wayspot was removed? I repeat: we’ve had three of them taken away in the last year.

Now that people can make reports directly from the Wayfarer map, it is much easier to report something ineligible when seen on the nearby while reviewing. We are seeing lots of people on the forum asking why things they did not realize were not eligible are disappearing all over the world, so it is not just an attack on your community. Graffiti is a big one where in some parts of the world it was commonly accepted but the guidelines state that vandalism is not eligible.

Not all graffiti is “vandalism” that is a waystop. Most “graffiti” is just basic art and allowed to be there, I have never seen on wayfarer a submission of graffiti vandalism and never in any towns seen it. I get what you’re saying but can you please show an example?

There definitely is a difference between vandalism and street art. This clarification tries to point that out.

There is no graffiti allowed where I live, so I don’t have a local example I can show you, but I will search for a link here to the kind of stuff that is being removed, and edit that in.

Edit: There are lots of examples if you search the forum, but a lot of them don’t have pictures with them. Here is one that does.
