It was a temporary goal in someone’s backyard and the pin is literally on top of the building. Perhaps a refresher of how to properly review would be helpful for you.
Then that would require evidence, and the pin would still be misplaced. ![]()
Come on now, who doesn’t like to get the neighbourhood round for a good session of roof-squatting?
With this thread being such an important subject could we keep it on topic.
Thanks
Call it gallows humour, but I will try. ![]()
A fascinating decision, indeed.
And, in a way, it marks the moment the abusers finally achieved what they had been working toward all along.
Which means the Wayfarer team ultimately lost that particular battle.
Then again, perhaps this outcome was inevitable. After all, the system has been gradually reshaped over the better part of eight years to make this result possible.
It will be interesting to watch what the field looks like a year from now.
My suspicion is that, by then, the worst-case scenarios many dismissed as alarmist will instead be remembered as remarkably optimistic.
incredible change very good the game and wayfarer should have been treated as separate the whole time very good change [mod edit]

Welcome to this forum @aSoapyoid
different views on the change are welcome, however please remain respectful to other users, and keep your comments focussed on the policy.
This platform wouldn’t exist if people weren’t passionate about it. That may not hold monetary value for the end user but it’s still holds some sort of value to many. If people can’t abide by the rules, why should they be allowed to have free rein to play? Other platforms have rules and if you mess up on them, you risk getting banned on anything else they’re associated with.
As someone who quit Wayfarer for two years after a warning with no feedback, this is the most sane thing the Wayfarer team could have done and I wholeheartedly welcome it. IMO the idea of coupling Wayfarer abuses with game accounts was a huge mistake. I returned as a contributor some months ago because there were minor improvements to feedback and submissions >1 year old could no longer haunt you. I was now willing to take the risk since I knew I was using the system in good faith. But deep down, the idea that this risk was still there just felt wrong.
To the ones horrified at this change: I think you’ve been in a bubble about this for so long that you no longer see what the general Pokemon Go community is thinking. Some of the argumentation I saw here justifying the system have seemed out of touch and convoluted to me, and likely to anyone not deeply involved with Wayfarer. I saw it often in my conversations with other PGO players.
These positions do not make sense outside of the bubble:
- When submitting, ignore the local precedents given by existing Wayspots.
- If you warn or ban someone vague feedback is sufficient.
- The entire system is built on guilty until proven innocent.
- The abuse ladder system is perfect and necessary and non-negotiable.
- It’s ok to skip strikes in a 3 strike system.
- It’s ok to take away game accounts from people who did free work in good faith.
If you use Wayfarer you have to be willing to accept these flaws in the system. Now some of the commenters here are so deep in the bubble that they only see doom. But between the lines of the new policy statement I see real opportunities to reimagine the ladder system in a more sustainable way. The statement implicitly distinguishes between learning infractions and truly egregious abuses. That has to be the basis of a new system. Implement 3 strikes for the minor issues and impose immediate Wayfarer bans for the obvious willful abuse. Exact details can be discussed, but to see so many people in this forum who are gleeful about banning Wayfarer users from their game accounts is quite a bad look.
No, I dont think I will. If you don’t understand Wayfarer and think its just a tool for your abuse, then you have no business here.
What did you do to receive your warning? Please post screenshots. This isn’t Reddit so we appreciate when victim posts are coupled with actual evidence and not fear mongering. So many people are susceptible to just reading “Wayfarer bad and banned me for being a perfect submitter” and assuming the worst of Wayfarer without any proof.
That’s old news and already discussed - no need to beat a dead horse. I’ve moved on and the system has improved, so I returned. My comment is about the new announcement. Your questions do implicitly confirm my statements about a bubble - thanks for that.I could have included the “fear mongering” point to my list - there is a real risk, however minimal. That’s not fear, it’s fact. P.S. Instead of assuming I’m guilty of something, here is my stat from the Wayfarer emails since I returned in April. I’m definitely proud of the contributions I’ve made in urban Germany and rural Poland:
September: 48815 visits, 3969 players, 17 nominations accepted, 16 new wayspots
August: 44747 visits, 2546 players, 4 nominations accepted, 1 new wayspot
July: 39578 visits, 2351 players, 13 nominations accepted, 11 new wayspots
June: 25842 visits, 1284 players, 15 nominations accepted, 13 new wayspots
May: 18895 visits, 1096 players, 9 nominations accepted, 2 new wayspots
April: 17131 visits, 1004 players, 0 nominations accepted, 0 new wayspots
I don’t recall discussing it. What did you do?
I used the nomination system in good faith.
Respectfully, your 6 points are way off base.
- When submitting, ignore the local precedents given by existing Wayspots.
YES. This one is true. But this is because criteria changes. It is also because removal criteria is out of sync with approval criteria. That is something dedicated Wayfinders have been begging to correct for years. Until they are the same, the best we can do is tell people to understand the criteria rather than just copying what they see on the map. I don’t know how you were raised, but i was raised not to just copy what other people were doing. My parents taught me to think about my own actions and be ready to discuss them. So, this is not a new concept for me.
- If you warn or ban someone vague feedback is sufficient.
I have never heard any experienced Wayfinder say they were happy with vague feedback. Again, we’ve been asking for better feedback for years. This point is just blatantly wrong.
- The entire system is built on guilty until proven innocent.
I think this is partially true. I don’t do the evaluations, though, so i can’t say for sure. What i can say is that when a team has to process such a high volume of violations, they probably can’t take a long time to try to determine intent. They have to make a judgment call and move on. This is why the appeal system exists.
- The abuse ladder system is perfect and necessary and non-negotiable.
Lol, no. No one here thinks it is perfect. Again, that’s why there is an option to appeal. But, like with most rule based systems, ignorance of the rules does not give people a pass. Too many people start using Wayfarer without putting a single thought towards what the rules are and then are shocked to find out that their failure to take it seriously has resulted in a consequence. Look, if I’m traveling to Singapore, it’s my responsibility to know that chewing gum is illegal. And if i choose not to learn anything about their laws before visiting, I’m still going to be held accountable for my actions.
- It’s ok to skip strikes in a 3 strike system.
The system clearly states that any steps can be skipped if the violation is severe enough. This probably your weakest argument.
- It’s ok to take away game accounts from people who did free work in good faith.
Again, the appeals system was designed to address this. But in the time that this system has been in place, i have not seen any actual good faith actions result in game bans. Every single time we have dug into the public information that we can see as just plain old users with no special access to behind the scenes information, we have been able to outline abusive and blatant disregard for the rules. We have done this here on the forum, on reddit, and on X where people have claimed to “have done nothing wrong.” Over and over and over. In the rare case where it was some good faith mistake, we walk the person through starting the appeal process and they get the positive result they deserved pretty quickly.
Thanks for sharing your side of things. I’m just sharing how I (and many others) experience the system here. I don’t know what this has to do with how I was raised??
